I recently won a Z10 (STL100-4) Verizon unlocked phone. Great? NO...my service is with T-Mobile and I've had nothing but problems trying to use this phone. After wiping the phone, reloading the software, upgrading the software to 10.1.0.2354 (not yet T-Mobile approved) and numerous restores, I have a phone that is at least somewhat functional. However, the specs for the 100-4 is specific to Verizon, so T-Mobile told me it will never get anything more than 2g service on T-Mobile. That's worse than the BlackBerry Torch 9850 I gave up when I thought I was upgrading to the Z10! Does anyone know if there is anything I can do to make this phone 4g or 4g LTE on T-Mobile like it is suppose to be? I've only had the phone about a month and it has a has been in case and screen protector on it the entire time. I have reached out to sellers on eBay to see if one would be willing to make a switch for a 100-2, which T-Mobile told me will be fully functional on the network. Any suggestions?

    Welcome to CB!

Try getting the device sold or a swap! Also, if you want best results on Tmobile, you will require the STL100-3 RFK121LW variant.

Unfortunately there's nothing you can do to the STL100-4 to get anything higher than 2G on Tmobile (the required bands/frequency aren't there). It's a hardware issue...sorry.

I fail to see how it's worst just because every single carrier doesn't run on the same frequency or because bb10 devices don't handle all the bands on one model..

Wait are you complaining that you a bought a device for a carrier that blackberry had to make a special for to make it work and that you are doing what it was not intended for?
You will not be able to use LTE on T-Mo for the same reason you won't be getting it if you had an iPhone 5 from VZW on T-Mo. The bands are not compatible. At all.
I'm sorry but if you wanted a Z10 that you intended to use on T-Mobile then you should have bought a T-Mobile variant or a An At&t one at the very least.

See if you can get a return or Craigslist it. Trade it.

STL100-3 is the one for Tmobile, but my STL100-1 works on Tmobiles HSPA+, which is the "4G"

Hmm.. I'd say safer to go with the STL100-3 (RFK121LW variant) reason being that the STL100-1 is not AWS, so it would mean your area utilizes the 1900MHz that Tmobile is rolling out. This may not be available everywhere.

Good to hear the STL100-1 works though!

Yes, STL100-3 is the optimal one since it's the default one Tmobile uses.

Yeah true. OP, do you need LTE? If you don't then just go for the STL-1 instead of STL-3 (LTE enabled).

I had a similar situation like yours. I bought my STL100-1 on Ebay, where the seller desctibed as STL100-3 for $380. It was a pretty decent price, under the circumstance it is a STL100-3 (Tmobile Z10). The phone arrived and it came out to be STL100-1, a Z10 made for the Middle East. I was very disappointed at the beginning realizing the seller sort of scammed me, but I was lucky that my phone was at least able to receive the Tmobile 4G (HSPA+ actually). I kept the phone and it's working good now.

    My suggestion to you is:
If you bought the phone and the description by the seller was clearly STL100-3 (works on Tmobile LTE), get a refund from them. If they refuse, use Ebay's buyer protection.
If you meant to buy a STL100-4, and you did receive one, still try return the seller the phone. If they decline, sell it to someone else on Ebay or Amazon, or even Craiglist. Then get the STL100-3, you will have LTE, or the STL100-1, you will have the fake "4G" (Edge or 3G or HSPA+ depending on your area)
