Its not a major issue but can someone explain why it is so? E.g facebook messages and emails. My z10 will always be 3-5 seconds late. I just want to know why as, as a massive and admittedly, obsessed bb fangirl I really hate that fact?

just the way tech is, sometimes my playbook gets the notification first, sometimes my transformer, others times its my laptop and it could even be my phone. They are all within 10 seconds of each other every time.

That's weird. My z10 always gets notifications faster than my Nexus 4, and is usually tied with my iPad. Why are 5 seconds a big deal though? Does it matter, realistically?

No, the time it takes for notifications has nothing to do with the speed of your phone. They're more related to the speed of whatever is pushing the notifications (ex. Activesync Vs. IMAP, etc.)
