Listening to music while using desktop mode in the browser while having Reddit in Motion, sideloaded Facebook Messenger, BBM and CB10 open in background and it's soooo laggy

    Z10STL100-2/10.1.0.4633

I thought QNX was meant to be lag free?

I think it's mostly the browser in desktop mode... all that flash

But you ARE running 6 things at the same time, what do you expect?

For something that powered the space shuttle, I expect a bit less lag.

    Flash is turned off.

This doesn't solve your problem unfortunately but I have maxed 8 open most of the time and there's no difference in speed.

I don't personally side load though but I do keep Android apps open.

Might be time to adjust those expectations a bit. Your phone only has so many resources. I doubt the space shuttle had 2gb of ram.....

the thing is it doesnt power the space shuttle, BB10 is not in the same league as that software. Its still going to need rebooted no matter what people might say. granted 16 hours isnt that long ago.

Check your free RAM and report back?

I had a 1ghz 1GB single core Android that's a couple years old these days and it never lagged even with multiple apps open. I'm pretty sure Android is more of a resource killer than QNX.

QNX never powered any space shuttle. It powered a telescope that was part of the equipment on some shuttle missions.

Do you think it's Internet lag or processing lag?

Edit: I tried stress testing it by opening as many apps as I could and as fast as I could. High stress apps like games, streaming and there was a lag spike just for just the GUI for for first 2 seconds then it evened off. I kept my browser music stream then tried my music app play, there was no skipping throughout this process.

I always though "rebooting" advice is crap. A perfect designed and implemented OS should have no ressource leaks (being it memory, file handles etc.) or be able to go into an inconsistent state and therefore no reason to reboot.

One of the primary tasks for an OS is to manage ressources and provide services for the apps. A reboot re-initalizes everything and if this is needed on a regular basis, it is IMHO a sign of poor OS implementation. This was indeed nescessary on the legacy BB devices (seemed that the OS development ran off track for RIM) but in much less degree on a BB 10 device.

Do I reboot my BB10? Not often. When I do it is most likely because some feature does not work and the reboot is an attempt to see if if "fixes it". I am running leeked, bleeding edge versions I expect some flaws, but a reboot is IMHO "something we did in earlier Microsoft Windows versions" - not acceptable in 2013.

If someone has specific reasons e.g. memory leaks I would love to hear it. If not I concider rebooting advice as "I really have no idea - just try it".

This was not meant to be personal against Matt in anyway. It just happened to be this post I replied to.

I reboot mine just because it's my personal preference, maybe twice a week. Everything needs to be refreshed. Smartphones are subjected to the most extreme things. No other computer has to deal with that. It's tossed around, part of workouts, the OS is updated often, subjected to hot, cold, high humidity. So while "you shouldn't " have to. I think it's a good practice. I pull the battery on my Note 2 as well. I haven't seen or been able to recreate most of the issues reported on this site.

They are called ACTIVE frames for a reason.
    Not pausedinthebackground frames.

I would occasionally get lag when I went past four or five Active Frames on 10.1, but ever since upgrading to the 10.2 leak lag has become a much less common occurrence. I'm sure there's still some optimization to be done though - as FrankIAm said these are genuinely "active" frames, they don't pause in the background like on other platforms so they will be resource-intensive, not to mention that you've got the Hub running while all of this is going on.

No lag here. It would probably depend on exactly which apps are open, though.

Weird. I had a DROID with the same specs and it lagged like a mofo with nothing open. This was with a custom stripped down ICS ROM too. It needed a daily restart.
