Suddenly, and with no warning, my Z10 keyboard has been acting weird. The word suggestion stopped working, language detection is not working any more, and when I want to type numbers, they dont appear on the screen (the do appear but when I hit them, they are not typed). All the keyboard settings seems to be ok. I have not changed anything significant so I am not sure what is causing this. Any ideas? Needless to say, the absence of the keyboard is making the Z10 more difficult to use

Below screen captures of the input settings. The last pictures showing typing, with no word suggestion. Also, the small globe next to the space key that one could use to change the keyboard is no longer there

I fear I need to do a security swipe the Z10, and I want to avoid doing that if there is a simpler way of solving this...

All the toggling did not help. Also found out that it is very easy to get addicted to the BB10 keyboard. Security wife completed. Keyboard came back. Now in the process of restoring 2.3 GB backup file via BlackBerry Link.

Think the keyboard will work well after restore. The only concern I have is that I don't know what caused the keyboard to stop working in the first place. This can happen again...

The small globe next to the space key will only be seen when u installed more than one input method.

If the predictive text is not coming up at all, I suspected the predictive text file is corrupted on the built in file system.

Hope the wipe will fix all this for ya.

Security WIFE will certainly fix it.

    Sorry. Joke only.

I hope your keyboard issue is now fixed.

Is this possibly related to Whatsapp?.... I had all sorts of bizarre keyboard issues for about an hour after install, then I deleted & reinstalled it...prob gone. Just a half baked theory....

Hmmm...might be the case. I am now back after security wipe and the keyboard is back.

I have been using whatsapp since the launch and it didn't cause any issue.

I found the cause and solution to this issue as it was happening to me as well.

    To cause the issue:

Ensure Settings > Language and Input > Spell Check > Ignore Words with Numbers is set to Off.
Basically it is caused by typing a string like "19th" in a text message (or any message?).

So you need to set Ignore "Words with Numbers" to "on" which will resolve the issue.

    Cheers

Mine just did the exact same thing. Cursor won't blink and letters won't appear. Word suggestions froze in place. I'm in no mode to do a security wipe as I just got this phone set to my preferences. I'm a little ticked right now. My keyboard stopped responding even after a battery pull. Help!!!! There has to be a fix. Obvious bug I'm sure BB is aware of.

That makes sense because the last thing I typed was, 4th! This is a bug. BB must address this.

I hate to sound negative but this thing is a minute from going back. The whole reason I switched from Android was because I needed a phone that was reliable. My Samsung piece of crap crashed constantly, and I never had any product support. I've had this thing for about three weeks now (I'm with Verizon) and it's been nothing but restarts and bugs. Something in this thing is unstable (crashes intermittently, sometimes for no reason and sometimes when I'm on a call) and now the keyboard just quits and I have to do a hard reset. If BBRY can't get something right in the next week or two I'll be changing to an IPhone. I really don't want to, but this is silly. And there's no way I'm going back to Android.

Looks like this is a common problem. I was about to take my Z10 in for replacement but luckily found this thread. Crackberry should highlight this issue as I'm sure it's affecting other users.

My keyboard locked up when I texted "7th." I had to turn on "Ignore Words With Numbers" in System Settings > Language and Input > Text Input > Spell Check and do a reboot as was suggested. This worked for me. Thanks so much for the suggestion. I was about to take my Z10 back after spending the whole morning trying to figure this out.
