I bought my partner a Z10 as he was fed up of Apple. He has been loving it but recently has found that he cannot make or receive calls because he cannot hear anything from his ear speaker!
Does anybody know of any way to fix this or is his phone doomed already?!

Before you go into lengthy repairs, check to see if there's anything physically in the earpiece area. I once was helping out a user who said she couldn't hear anymore through her speaker, and was going to buy a new phone. I cleared out the ear area with a paperclip and lo, it worked perfectly afterward.

It's a first step. When it comes to repairs, I'm fairly certain it won't be too hard. Press down on the speaker area to see if perhaps it's just loose. Press down and do a test call. If that doesn't work, try to reload software (I've seen it happen that it is in fact a software problem, not hardware).

If that doesn't work, to the repair depot it should go. It's within a year, meaning it will be covered by manufacturer warranty. As long as there's no liquid damage (also a leading cause of speaker problems), it should be fixed rather quickly.

    Good luck!

I've replaced my speaker four times now. I work in a machine shop and the magnet in the speaker attracts tiny particles of steel dust. It just gets quieter and quieter until it's completely pooched. I've since put a piece of scotch tape over the speaker cover.

The sound isn't as loud as a new speaker but it hasn't gotten any quieter.

I recommend buying some from e-trade supply. Make sure to buy at least 5 though to make the $20.00 shipping worth it. Speaker is like $1.50 or something...

Same thing happened to me. Got it replaced and next speaker plugged up in a couple months. Larger speaker has to be cleaned lots too.
