As the title mentiones, my Z10 enjoyed the rain a little this weekend and although it is starting up, none of the buttons or the touch screen work any more as soon as the OS starts up.

What is really strange though is that the device still responds to touch input when it's loading up (Touching the blue blackberry logo shows the percentage) but as soon as it's turned on everything seizes to function. I reloaded the 1925 leak that was still sitting on my desktop just in case(knowing that it's very very unlikely to make a change) and as expected, it didn't change anything.

So I went to MTN (South Africa) they kept it overnight and just told me the next day that the device will need to be replaced because it is, quote: "unrepairable". I'm sending it to another shop for a second opinion. Anyone have any thoughts on this?

For one you shouldn't have been turning it on or messing with it.
Anytime you have water damage you need to dry the device, sometimes for several days or else risk damage.

My guess is that's what happened to you. You messed with it prematurely and it got damaged. Best I can tell you to do is put it in a container with uncooked rice to absorb the moisture and hope for the best.

You may need to replace the device if the rice doesn't work.

Make sure the device is off and the battery is pulled.

As soon as I realized that it got wet I wiped it off and put it in a container separate from it's battery with some rice to try and save it, only tried turning it on again the next day. Didn't realized I should have left it for longer, it didn't get extremely wet either. So I actually assumed it would be fine.

I'll hear what the other shop has to say, otherwise I guess I'll have to get a replacement.

You could try pulling the board out and soaking it in distilled water, the alcohol bath, then leaving it in a desiccant for a while

The longer the better. The water that is going to damage the device is inside up against the electronics. It needs time to evaporate and be absorbed by the rice. Three or four days is what I usually recommend.
