I'm a big fan of BlackBerry but only thing that bother me is z10 camera. Why can't BlackBerry provide a good camera quality like other smartphones? Especially at night or in dark places it's so bad.

Many say it's just the software... that they'll patch it at some point and it'll work great. But don't hold your breath on that.

The only reason I can think that BlackBerry uses the hardware they use it so they can keep the cost down. When you no longer are a true manufacture and your product runs are so small.... you don't have the buying power that the big OEMs have. And you have to spread all your "cost" to operate out over a much smaller number of products, so cutting cost and staying somewhat competitive requires something to be cut.

Let's not forget the Z10 came out at the beginning of 2013 making it almost 2.5 years old. My Z10 camera works fine for my needs but I don't take a huge amount of pictures.

Okay...but even with this camera quality BlackBerry z10 was launched at 45000 Rs.(1 $~ 60 Rs.) in India. Only a year ago it's price fell to about 19000 Rs.

My camera on my z is working perfectly fine. It only struggles in dark light settings. On daylight it takes amazing pics.

The Z10 camera is pretty decent, it doesn't match my dSLR camera.. perhaps they'll patch it or something .

Play around with the settings and practice, it is quite blurred in low light however you can't expect much else considering it's a smartphone.

The front 2mp camera is terrible... 8mp is at least acceptable with the right settings.

Z10's camera is just fine. It takes high quality photos, even at night. Learn to use any available light to your advantage to take better shots. Better gloves will not make you a better boxer. Better techniques might.

Have you considered lighting a candle - Note the candle should have an aqua colored flame.

I wouldn't see it so negatively. Above all I always consider the camera in close connection to the built-in editor which you can use today much more comfortable than earlier. When I take a dark picture I immediately have it run through the editor and the result is almost always acceptable, sometimes even "cool".

For instance, look at this dark picture:

    z10 camera is so bad-640_754726781.jpg

It's incredibly dark. You can recognize plenty of black and only a few weak spots. A bad picture. An unuseful picture. Away with it.

But let it go through the editor. Only few clicks and it becomes rather clear what it was what I took: a pyramid-shaped church near my place.

    z10 camera is so bad-640_754726815.jpg

Of course, you can't compare such a photo with those of a SLR under the same conditions. But the thing is, it was really dark when I was taking the shot. Almost no light in the vicinity. With your eyes you could barely distinguish the edges of the church from the black sky. This is an extreme example, but I like using it to show how close the camera works together with the editor.

I was wrong, now I got it I have been using the camera with wrong settings in the dark places.
These pictures of yours are incredible. Did you use only BlackBerry inbuilt editor for these pics ?

It has the flash light problem guys, when I capture a picture with flash it leaves white eye. I mean it leaves white colour spot in the eye. And it can't be removed with red eye reduction tool in editing

I feel you OP. The camera on my Z30 is garbage. Wish they put the same thought into the camera as they did the speakers in this thing.

I hope with the new slider they use high end stuff. A camera that will scan bar codes instantly like I see others do. While I have to sit around and try to create pristine conditions.

Just use name brand expensive hardware. I mean they charge a premium price for an outdated phone why not charge a premium price for a premium phone.

When I had the z10 I was always proud to use the camera. It was very good. Now I have a z30 but can't get nearly the same quality photos so I hardly use it.

Even with camera++ the z30 just doesn't cut it.....
