This is going to sound really obvious, but could the battery be dead? Sorry, no one mentioned this yet...

Since nothing else seems to be working, have you tried to start the process without the battery in. I saw that suggested in other threads. I don't know if that works for BB10, but that was how to fix a nuked BBOS device stuck in a continuous reboot cycle so therefore unable to connect to Desktop Manager. Maybe worth a shot?

Yep tried with out battery and, with different batteries.. Actually 2 different batteries that were pulled from working phones..
In all cases the same thing exists, hold power button after about 20 secs you get a couple fast red lights an then it shuts off.
I hate to say this, but I've personally fixed 3 cases where individuals said they weren't at fault. Said the phone just bricked, and that the PC and cable were fine.
I plugged into my 8 year old comp, and it unbricks when i run the autoloader. So, I have learned to doubt when people say they are not at fault.
Hardware bricks are very very rare. You can go buy the lottery if it happens :)
I'll just add that just because he is a manager at a cellular related store doesn't necessarily mean he knows what he is doing
My friends who work at bell/fido come to me to fix their phones. I know a lot more about the phones than they do
Knowing how to sell a phone does not equal knowing how to fix a phone and understanding how it works
