Neither, my battery worked great the first week, and now I can't use the dammed thing for longer than 4 hours. I am on the verge of placing it on my desk as a paper weight

If it is the left side of the phone that is warm, that means the CPU/networking portion of the phone is working hard. They can use a lot of power if your cellular or WiFi signal strength is poor; or running CPU intensive applications, like video, GPS, games, downloading, etc.

My guess is that you have some active frames running in the background. Or some apps installed that is constantly updating its data. Also not necessary LTE, if you have poor cellular signal, or constantly searching for signal, that will seriously use up your power. Turn off the Mobile Network in settings when you are not getting any cellular signal for a long period of time.

I've been having the same problem since day one.

I thought it's only me as everyone on the forum are surprisingly 'happy' with the '12-14 hour' battery life. The best period i had was 6 hours of low-moderate use.

Some people are saying whatsapp is one of the main reasons behind this battery drain and i made the switch to BB10 the day it was released, so i don't how valid is their opinion. Others mentioned 'BB Travel' as well but i don't have it installed.

I hope Blackberry pushes a new OS update pretty soon to resolve this battery issue along with some bugs.

Download Battery Guru to track battery usage and see what is using up the battery. Certain types of usage are very battery intensive, that you might not be realizing, such as downloading apps or surfing certain sites. Just by activating Flash use in browsers uses more battery.

Check BlackBerry travel... earlier posts suggest there is a setting to turn off that sucks juice. Also, I've had better battery since turning off diagnostic feedback. I'm running .1W standby and between 1.0w to 1.8w during use. LTE full blast with 50% screen brightness.... I'm getting about 12-18 hrs. I have wifi and nfc off because I don't need them.

I've read elsewhere in the forums that it could be one of your mail accounts are stuck in a loop. Try killing off your mail accounts and see if things get better. Then you can re-add the accounts to the phone and the problem should be gone.

If you have BlackBerry Travel installed, remove it. Right now that app has a serious bug that causes the CPU to work overtime and use up the battery 2-3 times faster than normal.

I had set up one of my email accounts incorrectly and that was causing mine to overheat and drain the battery as the device was continuously trying unsuccessfully to connect.

If the battery is overheating it's because something is constantly running in the background that shouldn't be.

Eliminate your apps and email accounts one by one to see which one(s) is the problem. Then search the forums for suggestions as to how to set it up again so it won't drain power.

    Hey,

Even I had same problem with my Z10... I went to the service center and even thought of returning my Z10 and get back to 9900 but I happened to meet another proud Z10 owner who helped me a lot.
Firstly, for almost 15 to 20 Days, you would get crappy Battery Backup... My Z10 used to die in less than 4 Hours.
So I read through many blogs and found that first 15 - 20 days your Z10 tries to sync with the network and BB backend as well.
After 2 weeks of use, Try Draining out your battery completely and charge it completely, do this Twice and trust me, you would find an awesome difference in your battery backup...

I used to get less than 4 Hours of backup and now I am getting 12-13 Hours easily...!!! If I change my network to 2G from 3G, I get an additional 2 to 3 hours...!!!!

Trust Me, It actually works this way...!

    Cheers....

My Device is running "hot" more often than it's not. Average battery life is between 4-6 hours. Did a complete wipe, reinstalled the OS 10.0.10.85 on STL-3 Rogers. Calling them for support, so I can get it replaced under the 14 day lemon policy if it's defective. This is unusable in its condition. Without diagnostic tools like we have on OS7, can't see what is going on. it is BES 10 activated and BES is maintaining the mail management. LTE off, NFC off, Brightness down.

I had a different model phone that started getting hot and discharging quickly after 2-3 months of use. I'm pretty confident it was the comm board since most of the heat was coming from that end of the phone. I wonder if yours is having a similar issue. Is the heat isolated to one area of the phone?
