I just got off a conference call with a BlackBerry rep talking to Telus reps about the BlackBerry Classic and 10.3, and I asked if 10.3.1 will be coming to the other devices, and he said that because the z10 and q5 are EOL, they won't, the Z30 probably in Q1 of 2015, and the Q10 maybe.

How the hell can the Classic run 10.3 and the Z10 or Q10 not?!

I have 10.3 leak on my Z10, so the Z10 is definitely capable of running it.

The Telus rep is vaguely uninformed. But hey, its just a telco rep, one cant expect too much from these people.

It wasn't a telus rep. It's was a BlackBerry rep speaking to telus reps.

I believe there are two kinds of EOL.

For a sales rep, EOL means it's not longer made / supplied and therefore no longer sold,
for a tech guy or tech rep, EOL means it's not longer supported (with security updates)...

Couldn't officially buy XP anymore way before support ended...

(A third thing, Bold 9900 is still supported with security updates, but eligibility for an OS upgrade is no longer. OS upgrade eligibility might be a third category... *sigh*)

Yes, I'm aware of the distinction. What I'm saying is that this BlackBerry rep told us that z10 and q5 were EOL in the sense that they would not ne updated and would not be getting 10.3 NOR 10.3.1, but that the Z30 would and the Q10 was a maybe.

No, just no. The Z10, Q5, Q10, Z30 and any other BB10 device will be getting 10.3.1 soon. They have stopped building the older BB10 devices but they are not going to drop support for them anytime soon. If anything maybe 10.4 might be the cut off for the Z10/30, Q5/10.

That's what I thought. But I asked, and he answered, and I asked again and was really specific the second time, and still.

End of life. Funny because there's nothing end of life about my Z10. Already on latest.

Classic specs to me proves that if they update it. They'll update the older BB10s too...

How is it possible that just a month ago they sold a ton(or...some) of them on shop BB? Just to slap 'This EOL *rap' on them who bought?

Hoping something is missing in the links, some misunderstood question or answer. Really hoping for that.

Correct me if I'm wrong but I thought that just a few months ago, it was confirmed that all the current on-the-market BB10 devices would be getting the 10.3.1 update. I read it on CrackBerry (can't find the article) that these devices will skip 10.3.0 (which is exclusive to the Passport, officially) and go directly to 10.3.1

It was also rumored that 10.3.1 would be the last major update for the Z10, Q5 and Q10...so maybe no 10.4, but that's quite far away so who knows.

I can't see logic in that sentence. Z10 is most popular bb10 phone with highest sold numbers. They will keep supporting it until z10 successor is out

Maybe when 10.4 comes out, while the newer phones get that update, the Z10 will get 10.3.2,3 etc.

I agree with each and every one of you that what I was told makes zero sense; that the classic's specs lead me to believe they'll all get updated; that the Z10 and whatnot are still relevant; that they just sold a whole bunch, and to do so and then stop supporting software updates would be absolutely stupid. I'm in that boat with all of you. I'm just relaying what I was told by a BB rep.

Just because the Z10 is capable of running a newer OS doesn't mean that they'll actually release it for that device. So, yes, I saw that he is running a leak of 10.3 on the Z10. I don't see how that gives any insight into what BB plans to do in the future.

It all and I do mean ALL remains speculation. If it will be released, when it will be released, what will be released.

I am pretty sure that the xxxx will hit the fan it the Z10 is short-changed. Hopefully, this will not become another PLAYBOOK BROKEN PROMISE. But, at least, so far, the Z10 is capable of running the currently leaked OS's.

I wouldn't be surprised if BlackBerry decides to leave older devices on 10.2.x OS. I have tested on my STL100-3 Z10 all popular 10.3.x leaks, including official 10.3.0.1418 release and latest 10.3.1.1154 and there is visible UI lag present on all of them. Virtual keyboard performance is also worse compared to 10.2.x official releases. Apple pushed iOS7 on older devices and got tons of performance related complaints.

That's why it's called a leak because it is not the official carrier release. Many things can and do happen by the time a release gets pushed to the carriers

I'm running 10.3.1 fresh build... sic wipe. There is no lag unless you are in battery saver mode.
