Thanks for your detailed and thoughtful response.

But what I quoted gets to my question about Android ports. Kindle, which I use, too, is available on BB World as "Kindle for Blackberry," and Tapatalk is also available from BB World. Are these Android ports? Do they not work on the 10.1 leak?
Yes, these are "ports", i.e., Android apps ported to the BB10 platform. I got them all from BB World.

The difference between a port and a sideload is that a ported app may be tweaked a bit to work in BB10, even though it's still basically an Android app. The tweaking may not always be obvious, and I suppose some ports aren't modified at all. The ports come through BB World; the sideloads don't. The very term "sideload" means to get the software on your device without going through the normal channel, which is BB World.

Having said all that, these terms are often used more loosely, so some people call sideloads ports, and vice versa. It gets confusing.

In my case, these particular Android apps didn't work well on the 10.1 leak.

This thread shouldn't even have been started. There is no actual source from BlackBerry, and everyone is taking this post as fact and getting pissed off.

If anything, it should be in the news and rumors section.

I found 1429 to have hiccups at time as well but still nothing that wasn't worth down grading and my version Z10STL100-3/10.1.0.1483 is even more stable unfortunetly like the Skype thread for the sake of my contact I can't release how I obtained it only that it's stable and faster than 1429

To note about my version is its only two below the dev 1485

    Posted via CB10
Just curious. How is your battery life holding in the .1485 compared to .1429?

I'm still on. 882 and will wait until official release of either of those two.

Everyone has to remember that this isn't iOS where apple controls everything most software updates these days even android are by carrier, as I've mentioned if blackberry sent the Q10 to carriers that means they also have a copy of 10.1 to test and load their bloatware onto so the carriers are delaying the 10.1 to Z10 to hope to sell more Q10s and convert Z10 people who just need the latest and greatest software without knowing any better
While I am sure plenty will happily buy the conspiracy theory about carriers sitting on 10.1 for the z10, a more likely scenario is that the q10 was higher priority for both BB and the carriers so they did not deliver the final version of 10.1 for the z10 at the same time and even when they did deliver it the carriers are going to test the new hardware before new software since they are going to prioritise the thing that is going to make them more money and only have finite resources in their labs.

is it just me or do i feel like Z10 users are kind of getting **** on after all we put our alot of trust in blackberry and its software then we get the 10.1 later (weeks) it feels like a new baby is coming along and we get pushed out to the side and get scraps
The primary purpose behind 10.1 is support for the q10, so it is only logical that it shows up there first, look on the bright side, they could have easily thrown it over the wall for the z10 at the same time, but instead delayed it slightly to ensure there were not any z10-specific issues while the main focus until then had been on the q10.

As far as being **** on, if you think about it, the q10 was due a few weeks after the z10, the delays we have seen to it's release were clearly due to them needing to spend more time on the z10 before it launched so if anyone has cause to moan it would be those who were waiting patiently for the q10.

Well you'll be really disappointed to know the true BlackBerry flagship phone won't be out till this holiday season
That's rubbish, there will be new models, but if you think that BB do not consider the z10 and the q10 to be flagship models at this time then you are out of your mind, 9 months on is practically onto next year's flagship list.

I got into the habit of installing leaked OS versions on my legacy BBs. They almost always worked fine, and generally provided incremental improvements in features and performance. I rarely had to roll back to a previous BBOS version, and often the leak became T-Mobile's official release in a month or so anyway. But I think all that smooth sailing was due to the fact that BBOS was already a very mature OS, and the OS engineers already had everything working well; the updates were mostly minor tweaks, increases in efficiency, and so forth.

In BB10 we have an OS that is still pretty "raw", with a lot of features, not just tweaks, waiting to get coded in. I think that means that it will be a bumpier ride for a while, and we won't be able to have as much confidence in leaked versions being relatively problem-free.
I think the crucial difference with this bb10 leak is that it was of a beta build rather than just a leak of official software intended for another carrier, so it is hardly a huge shock when non-final software shows some issues.

It is always the way, people fly off the handle at the slightest little rumour these days and it all seems so over the top when a z10 actually runs great on 10.0 already and 10.1 doesn't actually add a huge amount of new features since it was focused on the q10 too.

The update will introduce many of the same features found in the Q10 shipping software, including Pin-to-Pin messaging, contacts suggestions in the Hub, HDR photos in the Camera app, custom message notifications on a per-account basis, in addition to performance improvements and better low-light photos.
Any idea what is meant by "contacts suggestions in the Hub"? Does this mean the suggestions from the compose email screen will be added to other forms of messaging such as text? Or is this something different altogether?

I'm not an AT&T customer, but I am a hybrid builder. I can say that in several years of watching OS releases AT&T is pretty darn slow. Honestly though, having a GSM phone has typically allowed more latitude when updating an OS, as most of the world uses GSM. Folks on Verizon and Sprint have historically been stuck waiting for their carriers to release a CDMA-specific update, and those are typically even slower.
