Has anyone else had this issue recently? I can't get YouTube to switch back to mobile version, despite choosing that option repeatedly. I thought it might just be my phone, so asked a friend to try switching to desktop version and then back, and now she is stuck on desktop version too! Ideas?

Hum you're right. Seems like the only way to get it back is to clear cookies.

Mu suggestion is to use the browsers desktop mode in future to go to the desk to version of YouTube as this seems to let you go back when you turn it off.

Looks like you will need to clear your browser cookies to fix it for now though.

Is this the only way? I'm scared to mess with cookies because the last time I touched it and the history it crippled my browser.

I use FastTube. Its a simple quick way to watch YouTube videos and it shows in high quality.

it's funny but I used to have the same problem on Android, depending on which browser I used. To force the mobile version to load I just went to google, typed m.youtube.com, and then bookmarked the results page. Then when i wanted to go to the mobile Youtube site I just used the bookmark and clicked on the m.youtube.com link in the results. (this was the only way i could get it to work. Simply bookmarking m.youtube.com did not work.)

In the end I found a better browser, but the method I described should work for anyone.

Eh? If you're using a PC, then your browser is on desktop mode.
