I know I am be late to the party but have any of you seen what has happened with this project and read the front page? This is absolutely disgusting, what BlackBerry did. I really have nothing more to say. So much for supporting indie development. Just go and do a quick read.

Way to burn bridges. Wazzapp/Open Whatsapp has tremendous support across other communities in the mobile space, thanks to Whatsapp's selective approach to development. Hope BlackBerry have the spin doctors ready for this one...

Wow seems BlackBerry keeps f*cking his Customers and Developers. I don't use this WhatsApp thing but that's a very bad sign. BlackBerry needs to be sued. They simply can't be longer allowed to keep going this way. If needed, a Corporation like BlackBerry needs to be destroyed forever. No Corporation should be ever allowed to misuse People as their Personal Dev Slaves.

Wow that sucks! But to be honest, this situation shouldn't have come as a huge surprise to anyone as it's obvious that many companies are waiting for BB10 to pick up some steam before developing for the platform. As such, this scenario was foreseeable as it was always a possibility that Whatsapp would eventually be made for BB10. What happens to Openwhatsapp once Whatsapp arrives should have been discussed (in writing) with BlackBerry from the get-go.

Don't expect corporations to treat you nicely out of goodwill. They are profit-driven entities that make decisions based on what is good for the company and shareholders, not what is good for an indie developer. Lesson learned: anticipate and protect yourself.

Sounds like the good old world of business to me. It sucks for this developer, but at the same time BlackBerry has to do what it can to secure the big players and if it means guaranteeing exclusivity to these big players then they would be foolish not to.

Let's wait what BlackBerry going to say about it

And if WhatsApp also blocked it than its not BlackBerry fault!

It's unfortunate and BlackBerry should have maybe done a bit more for the developer like maybe giving him some form of compensation.
But in the end BlackBerry needs big name, first party apps. This is bigger and far more important to them than the success of a single app or developer. They know that without the apps that people want the platform will fail.
BlackBerry should have done more for this Dev, they should have apologized for it if they really worked so closely with the developer.

This is old news. Further, there are some very significant security concerns with open whatsup, to the point that BB apparently had some very heated discussions with the developer. There are also some serious copyright/trademark infringements that open whatsup has yet to address. To be honest, there is something a bit shady about open whatups and it seems to me one should stay clear of this group.

First of all, in this post you see only ONE side of the story. And it's not "BlackBerry f... things up again ", but protecting its business. Anyone here heard of infringement lawsuits?
