Battery life is decent on my Z10 but sometimes I would like to charge it for about 30 minutes or so if I'm heading out to meet friends, go to the cinema etc straight from work. This small charge would give my Zed the extra power to see it through the night.

Will this sort of top-up charging hurt my battery in the long run? I've always tried to drain the battery as low as I can before setting it on a full charge overnight.

Every battery has a limited number of cycles, however these Lithium Ion batteries don't really suffer from the "memory" that Nickel Cadmium batteries used to really struggle with.

As for the number of cycles, I think you'll replace your Z10 before your reach that limit.

Charge as much and as often as you need... at the end of the day, there's no use in babying a battery if it's dead when you need it most.

Thanks very much! I was worried that it might weaken the battery somehow but you're right. Will charge as needed now.

    Cheers!

You also have to ask yourself how much a new battery would cost, here in the UK it is about 14 or if you buy it as part of the charging bundle it costs about 23.

Really cheap if you compare it to getting a new battery for an iPhone!

    Use it up and enjoy.

The battery doesn't have memory but the device does. It won't hurt it a lot, but you will confuse the hell out of the phone.

Lol... I don't really think so. I mean, these things are pretty smart nowadays.

I've topped off every BlackBerry I've had since 2007 - all night and several times a day for over 2 years on each of my last two. Never been an issue of "confusing" them somehow.

Now, my old 9800 (bought back in Dec 2010) can't hold a charge for more than about 3 minutes, but I don't use it anymore, and my 5 year old gets a few minutes to play with it before it goes from full charge to shut-the-phone-down dead. But it's just an old battery, and apparently the old F-S1 batteries tended to loose storage capability after about 2-1/2 years.
