In the "old days" I could hack my OS as much as I wanted.
Sure, I had to delete a few carrier files but it all worked like a charm.
Now with the OS10 I see no hacking and everything on updates relates to SL100-1 "2" "3" "4" respectively.
So can someone explain to me why we can't hack our OS like we used to be able to.
I'm geeky but not familiar with the writing of the OS10 code.
    Thanks!

There is a wealth of info on this in the PlayBook rooting forums. I know your asking of the z10 but it applys. Basically BlackBerry is all about security and its just not gonna happen...again

No idea what you are talking about.
Unless you mean loading the OS release of another carriers on your phone, even though your carrier hasn't officially released the update yet.
    You still could.

It's just the updates relating to the various hardware versions means they are not interchangeable. E.g. similar to how you can't use the OS from a Torch 9810 on a Torch 9800. (Or at least I don't think you can)

This also has nothing to do with "hacking".

OP means why cant we just load different OS versions on the Z like old BBs. Its not hacking per say either.

Like say the att release 7.1.2535 for the 9900, you used to be able to load that release onto all the 9900s. You could use the desktop software and the exe file to do so

With the BB10 OS its not like that, you need to get a SIM of the carrier to get the release. The OTA upgrades are a new type of ballgame and we dont get exe files like we used to.

And its a good question and i hope we find a way around the current system. I am have a few SIMs so i can snatch an upgrade like i did for the 116 upgrade but its not a choice for everyone. Heck the SIM doesnt have to be activated to work.

With older devices you used to be able to run the os through a program to "Shrink" it before you used the application loader to throw it on. So you could remove any languages, any preloaded programs that come with the os etc before you even put it on your device, maybe he's referring to these tweaks as hacks.

Aren't there autoloaders floating around here for the STL100-3?
I know as a fact I updated my Zed using an autoloader.
But I think, as the guy above stated, OP means actually tweaking the OS as in messing with its files.

I believe that this is what the op is referring to as well.

Or it could be hybrid oses that people would make.

    But probably the first.

Yes, I do mean the different carrier OS. And I call it "hacking"
