Is there a Wifi texting solution that works for the z10 for 10.2.1

I've been trying a few things but I can't get anything to work

Basic texting generally does not work over wifi. On Tmo, it works over wifi-calling.

Rogers has a pseudo WiFi calling feature available for Android, and IIRC, an Android apk can be installed on BB10 phones. I'll try and look for the thread, but maybe @just_luc sees this thread and replies.

Keep in mind, this option above would only switch the networks that your text goes out on. If Rogers charges you for text, they still will regardless of mobile or WiFi network.

Didn't Rogers actually have wifi-calling at one time?

Like text, MMS works on wifi-calling. Least it does on Tmo. MMS over straight wifi is a no-go.

You mean cell data. Wifi-calling "combines" the cell side and the wifi side. Which I am going to catch hell for saying. But wifi-calling will not work w/o your SIM installed. This feature is well known. Which is a good thing because where I live I get zero cell reception. So I am on wifi-calling (with cell radios off) and get and send MMS all the time. I even use it when on wifi on airliners in airplane mode.

I didn't explain it very well. I want to have free Wifi texting, on the z10.

So for example fongo gives you calling, but you have to pay for the texting, so is there something where I can get the texting for free? It's okay if the number is different

Why don't you just use bbm or whatsapp?!

Because it requires the recipients to have the same apps installed? Try using BBM for someone who has a dumb phone, or no data.

Wifi-calling is essentially transparent. You call or text anyone, they do the same to you -- no one knows you're on wifi-calling: no special number, no mutual apps needed. Usually free. AT&T gets it next year (?), Sprint is playing with it on a few Android phones. Have used it so much traveling and domestically where there's no signal (like home) personally can't do without it.

Short message service is by design using the analog cell service, it is not digital data, so no using your normal Wifi data will not work to send texts.

There is however many Web services that will sent SMS messages for you to a standard phone number.

You can send an email to their phone number and it will come to them as a text, for many carriers. For example,
