Hey guys, I have a question regarding battery usage for Standby. Standby eats battery almost equal to System in about 8 hours during my college. I can't find the reason as there aren't much headless apps.

Why Standby eats so much battery?-img_20140814_144414.png

10% is very much and in some other cases, its even high.

How many configured accounts do you have in the Hub? What polling requencies do you have?

4 accounts. On the other hand, my android tablet eats less than 2% in this time interval

The important question is the polling frequency. If these accounts are polled (requested) every few minutes according to a short polling interval you will surely have high network traffic and battery drain. Check this. Set all these accounts to "manually" and look what happens.

The swipe up gesture to unlock the phone also is one of the causes

Thanks for quick replies guys! I have set the sync interval from 30 minutes to 24 hours for my accounts and even disabled swipe to wake gesture. Let's see the results. Will comment again in 2 days

    Thnx again!

No change here after changing the things you said. Android has way less standby drain.

    Any more tips?

My standby is also draining a lot of battery. I'm on 10.3.0.700 and when I look at other people's device monitor, mine is extremely low and there's is normal. I think I had a bad install or something

Sync interval, I think, means the sync of all mails sent from other sources than your Device. For example, if I send a mail from my Laptop, my BB device will sync it in some specified interval but not instantly.

Get BaSa battery analyser. Keep it open in active frame all the time. Note your average standby drain when at home. Once you have your baseline drain only then compare to what it is when you move to your college for example.
Wifi signal could be weak in the college. Radio signal could be weak also. Are you on data plan? Data plan is major culprit in standby drain when you move places.
Don't compare to android it's pointless.

Ok, I will download it. I use Wi-fi in my college for about 40-45 minutes. However data plan is used for about 30 mins approx during travelling. Both of these shouldn't cause major battery drain. Radio Signal is good there. Even at home, for about 1 hour atleast, StandBy is in Top 3 battery drainers.

Sync interval determines when the phone will 2 way sync with account. So deleting/adding contacts or moving emails around and such. Gmail no longer pushes to BlackBerry devices so it polls. I believe BlackBerry polls for email every 15 min when it hasn't round any email. And if it finds mail, it will continue to poll every 3? Or 5? minutes until it doesn't find any email. Then goes back to 15. The sync option will destroy a battery if you have a ton or email because it will resync your entire inbox. It doesn't mean you won't receive any email.

And by the way your standby drain at 10% is perfectly fine. That is what it should be. I have only one email. account but syncing all the time via EAS. Standby drain similar to yours. So stop worrying about it.

My system eats two times more ) and standby is pretty high as well.

I can understand display, but those two things...

Yeah well my standby eats 33%, measured in Last 48 Hours.

I'd say standby includes the network activity. I noticed a difference when I go to bed and leave my BlackBerry on 3G vs setting it to 2G

Hi, I had the same problem and reach a solution. I was having between 6 and 8 hours of battery with a VERY light use. And pass to be between 14 and 16 hours only installing a specific version of the operating system. The only version that could give me the solution was 10.2.1.3247. And I can say I tried ALL the others. I have a STL 100-1.
Hopefully this will solve the problem. Excuse the language, do not speak English and I'm using a translator, I hope you understand.

in settings make sure you have only the radios that you're using on, I only ever use 4G & 3G, but when I'm going on a night out I switch to just 3G on as it saves a LOT of battery.

I wonder - could carriers reduce "coverage/signals/whatever" during the evening hours in our various localities expecting less demand while we sleep?????? Thereby causing the phones to burn more power finding/keeping the signals during those "restful" hours.

My model is Stl 100-1 so only 2G and 3G. In my area, there's only 2G. So I have set it to 2G

My OS Version is 10.2.1.3247. Still such battery drain.

I had 39% standby battery drain in last 48 hours.

I was intrigued that was one of the selling points regarding improved battery life, but later was perplexed at the rate of drain.
Now after downloading 10.2 it's even worse. Some days I'm charging three times.
