I don't use BBM and never did, I thought this is chat app only for BlackBerry.

What I don't understand why every app connects to BBM. What is purpose of this?

BBM is now more than just a chat app. It has voice and on BB10 video calling as well as a screen share option. Very impressive actually.

Same here. BB user for years (since I replaced Moto RAZR and Tungsten E combo). Multiple email access on 9900 and PB. Text a lot in biz and especially to my late 20's - early 30's kids who use iphones. Why BBM so special unless everyone you know is BB. I got e-mail survey yesterday from BB about BBM. Survey asked if you use BBM? Would you recommend? Etc. My answers caused short survey before Thanks. Good post. Someone help us understand.

Nothing to understand. If you don't want it to connect then uncheck that option when you download an app.

Doesn't everyone want everyone on their BBM to know what they download, listen to etc?

I know I don't, it's a social thing and I also don't bother with facebook or twitter. So yep I always uncheck share.

Does it still have the option to not share and keep that option for all?

I have some stuff connected to bbm and it's not like they auto update your status. Its for easy sharing to bbm friends when YOU click share, for example I used to use it a lot with score mobile for sharing sports scores ect (this is the way its worked for me)

For an application developer, at the very least, it's a good way to have your users/customers promote your app. I would say the overwhelming majority of BlackBerry users use BBM. So this is a great vehicle to get your app known to more people.

If u like an app, this is a good way to tell other people in one message that also includes a link to download the app.

+1. I also use it to share news articles and other interesting bits of information. Easy and efficient.

The way I understand it is so that you can share things to bbm contacts, also some in some games you can do invites to play multi player with your bbm contacts. So in general is a social & multi player thing.
