To me it looks like a random software problem. When I launch the device monitor, I can see that some apps, often it is PIM services, are consuming the battery heavily. Looks like the BB10 loops somehow in some sync attempt or something and this both heats the Z10 up and consumes its battery in a very short time.

This has been an entertaining thread. OP it is normal for it to heat up during intense activity like playing certain games. Mine doesn't heat up much during normal use though. For instance right now I have three active frames open and I'm browsing the forums on my CB10 app. My phone is currently 75 degrees Fahrenheit.

Lucky you, that you have been spared. The Z10 heat up and sudden battery drain is very common, if you have not noticed in the forums by now

That is what I am talking about. And that is why a hard reset will not help a bit.

WOW 100% on system! damn, that's why your phone is so HOT, it's going to start a fire. I think you should Reload your OS and reload your backup. That doesn't seem right. I have never see that before. Even with really hard usage the system should hover around 40-50%. You might damage your battery and you phone.

Could you also post a screenshot from the "Battery" tab of the monitor, so we can see which app is actually eating up your power?

The same is happening to me randomly all the time.

actually it is melting for short. you can feel it in your finger when you touch it. it is deep in reality. yeah that was before when my friends are always playing games with my phone for certain hours.

    posted via CB10 on z10
If a rubber is melting you cannot even feel to touch it. I presume that it is heating up to the point that you can still bare to touch it.

All phones heat up. Games are really pulling on the phone and battery. It's nothing to worry about.

Just like when you do a device setup with all your accounts and your downloading apps, the phone is working hard to get everything done.

Reload the OS if you really have to.

So heating happens to all when playing games right. So should try to give time gap between playing games. Also after which temperature should I leave my phone to cool down.

This is a manufacturing defect from poor thermal paste. Many others have experienced it. I actually disassembled a z10 and fixed it. Heat issues are now gone.

I don't really think this is a thermal paste issue, but software issue.

Is this on all STL100-1's? Or only certain batches? I have a stl100-1 and mine has only ever gotten a little warm.

Same here I have STL100-1 . Iam using my Z10 as a productive phone not mostly on entertainment. I once played game it get warm though. Then if I continue playing, the battery indicator turns red and empty. Maybe a sign that it reach the maximum temp of a unit.

I noticed this now. When I start playing games my temperature shoots very quickly within 5 minutes from 32-34C to 38-40C. Is this a quick rise or normal?

My Z10 heats up like none of my prior phones. It's honestly the hottest (no pun intended) phone I own, and I own a ton of phones since my brother develops for them and gives me older ones. It's probably not going to damage anything, but it's definitely noticeable even when I'm not doing anything.
