I've always connected at 4G as shown on the top right corner and all of a sudden for the past 2 days I get an H.

I tested the Internet speed and it's one of the best I've ever seen of this z10 topping out at 10.46 mbps download, but horrible 0.86 mbps upload.

What sort of connection is H???

H or H+ are the same thing as "4G". It signifies HSPA+ which is the same radio as good old 3G but with "Enhanced back haul", meaning a high speed connection to the tower and faster data speeds. It is actually capable of much more than we see normally. T mobile runs 42mb/s where at&t only runs to 21.

I generally see real world download speeds of 5-8MB/s. Sometimes lower with extreme network load. Upload speeds are generally 1-2.

I think the highest I've ever seen on hspa at&t is around 14 for the record.

LTE is a better network, less crowded and more stable than UMTS /HS*PA.

    Sorry for the misunderstanding.

As of today June 4th, 2013

By definition the only 4G service provider in the world is Yota in Russia; in the city of Moscow, which has the equipment ready but has yet to release the first 4G capable phone in the world. But is scheduled to do it this year.

What people call 4G and 4G LTE are really HSPA+(H+ for short) and LTE.

LTE Advanced is the first 4G technology to be available in the world yet to be released. The other being IEEE 802.16m or WirelessMAN-Advanced which is currently under development.

    Yes, truth in that.

There's however a vast difference in stability, roundtrip times and speed between HSPA+ and LTE (3.9G). For real time (or near realtime) experiences on remote desktops etc, LTE (3.9G) is needed. For browsing and data transfers either will do.

But this really doesn't bother the common user at all - it should just say if it's connected or if it's not.
Anything above UMTS is considered "high speed" as well, on the consumer market. :P
