So Im sure some of you techy people could answer this one.... Its a pretty dumb question...

I own two BB Z10s . One Telus on and one Verizon one.
What would happen if I was in the US and put my SIM card from my Verizon Z10 into my Telus Z10.

    Thanks

Is it Telus Z10 locked? If so, im guessing the Telus phone would not let you access the Verizon cell network from the Verizon sim card...

If it was unlocked, should work ok as long as Telus and Verizon phones work on the same GSM band.. If both of your Z10's are the same model number, (ie, STL100-1) then the GSM band issue shouldnt matter either.

Check the phones model number by looking on the box, or type in "myver" and a space into any textbox (without the quote marks).. HTH

Is the Telus phone unlocked? If so the answer depends on whether the Telus phone can operate on the Verizon frequencies/system. IIRC Verizon is a bit of an outlier using CDMA. That is why their phones are sold partially unlocked, so GSM SIM cards can be used in them.

My Telus phone is a STL100-1 and Verizon STL100-4. Neither are unlocked, so I guess that answers my question.

    Thanks for the replies.

I believe that the Verizon Z10's are UNlocked when sold - an unusually gracious and therefore uncharacteristic move by Verizon!

The STL100-4s are unlocked but the reason is that they're near-worthless as a GSM/HSPA/LTE phone in the United States; their LTE bands are Verizon-only and they have zero support for US-based HSPA service. They are usable internationally for higher-speed service in some (but not all) areas.

So they'll work, but only at 2.5G (EDGE) or slower on AT&T, T-Mobile and the smaller GSM-based regional carriers.

I guess that would explain why I only get 3G on my Verizon phone in Canada in the exact same places I get 4G on my Telus phone.

Are you sure your Telus phone is a 100 -1. My understanding is that all Canadian phones are -3 models and there are two variants RFK121LW & RFF91LW. The 100-1, as I understand it, was mostly sold via Middle East Carriers. See the comparison chart in this Wikipedia entry:

Yes you are correct. I took a look again and my Canadian one is a 100-3.

If you put your Telus sim card into the stl100-3, I think it would be fully functional, assuming it was unlocked.

And if you put the Telus sim into the stl100-4, it would function on edge only. Not 3g/4g/lte
