Could be pin messaging, though that's coming out in the 10.1 Have you gotten the leak?

It's pin-to-pin messaging. It's like an email, except the persons pin is the address.

You're obviously using the leaked OS.

What is the difference between PIN message and BBM that is also using BlackBerry PIN?
Can I use PIN to send text messages among other OS such as iOS, Android, old Nokia phones, etc.?

No, PIN is blackberry specific. You can PIN another blackberry PIN and communicate that way. I think it was a holdover from the original blackberries before BBM existed.

    Could be wrong.

PIN messaging is like sending a person a very private message over BBM. Of course you can still use BBM to chat, but this was a feature in the old OS, as far as I've read.
Many found this useful during the times when BBM wouldn't work, though I'm not sure how you can still PIN message when your BBM isn't functional.

Does the other pin have to accept your invite before you can send them a message like bbm?

Maybe if you don't have to for pin messaging is the reason why people want it back?

    No

It is more like sending a text or short email. Big difference is, the message will be displayed in red rather than black.

Some enterprise setups block BBM, so pining is another option.

I love pining and I'm super glad it's coming back in 10.1

So , kind of implies that I need to know the other guys, or gals, pin.

Maybe not be handy or easily known without prior pin exchange....correct?

PIN to PIN is a very private way of exchanging messages.... They don't need to accept you as a BBM contact so technically you don't even see their avatar or name or location, etc.

All you know about them (unless they tell you) is their PIN

PIN-to-PIN messaging system — a function that leaves no lasting trail because it bypasses data-saving email servers. It allows users to connect directly through their devices using Personal Identification Numbers.
Super private, no trail, phone version of "private browsing" so to speak. Incognito baby <3
