An app that uses your LED notification light to flash different colours for calls or messages for specific contacts. Really any thing that you want running in the background that you don't won't accidently closed could be a headless app.... weather app, stock ticker, another messaging app, torrent downloader....


There are lots of apps that would be useful running in the background.... but they will affect performance and battery life.

It's an app that has parts running in the background - not needing any UI - not needing to be shown as ActiveFrame.
A sample can be FlipShush - an app that "shusshes" the phone when you lay it face-down. The app automatically starts when the phone is booted/starts - but does not show any UI. If you tap on the App in your applist - the UI will help you configure the app - but as soon as that is done - close the UI and the app keep running quite happily
