That's your own phone number. You can go to settings and look for your Sim card to edit your number there. I don't know how to answer you if you are Sim free.
^what he said.
I couldn't find the option under the settings, but the search for "sim" brought it up..
You can choose to not show it altogether, from the phone settings when you pull down in the phone app.

It shows your number... mine is showing by default
Go to "security and privacy " within setting. Select SIM card and just enter your own mobile number!

Don't understand why you should have to enter you r own number? When I'm home, it says my number. I never entered it. When I've used foreign sim's it never shows my number. So what's the point if you have to manually enter your phone number???

It's called flexibility, some carriers don't embed the phone number into the sim.

Well, the odd thing is that my friend has a number showing that isn't her number, but thanks guys.

Mine doesn't allow me to enter another number than the one from my sim card. Maybe it depends on the carrier?
Posted via CB10
I guess you can enter number only if you are using a SIM Free device! That is an unlocked device!
Z10
No that had nothing to do with it.

Mine is unlocked and it still has my number and I can't change it. I guess it reads it from my SIM card.

Where do I enter the number in there? Don't see the option to add my number
Posted via CB10
It's on security and privacy > sim card > (button) edit phone number

Edit phone number doesn't seem to show up for me, guess it's just Digicel (my carrier) that doesn't support it

Yeah guess so. Odd that this year I used SIM's from SG, ID, TH, FR, IT and MX, and none of them put a phone number here. Only TMO US.

The number is there so if you're traveling and get a new SIM from a local provider, you have the number displayed.
You can BBM people and they can still contact you since your BBM doesn't change.

What happens when you edit the number through the sim config?

You all are too smart lol. I have lots of friends that don't know their phone number when you ask them. It's also useful for showing people when they ask for your phone number. Instead of repeating a string of numbers 2 or 3 times, just hand them your phone.

Wow that's a lot of swapping!
