What is Cell Broadcasting and why is it turned on in my Z10, also does anyone know what channels 199 and 299 are? I am with Rogers and am wondering why this is turned on.

Cell Broadcast - Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

Basically, it is much like the Emergency Alert System is on radio, and can be used by authorities to send emergency alerts to cell users. I have already received two different Alerts based on Weather . This is the first one I received and took a screenshot of.

As you can see, it overlayed on the browser page I was on at the time. It made me jump, because it popped up with a LOUD alert tone. Being as I'm in many areas, I love this feature, because I'm rarely watching TV for alerts, and it gets your attention fast.

And yes, I was on CrackBerry when it hit...
