I tried without the SD card: i do not have the mass storage option.
but it behaves the same way.
I tried to uninstall the driver during that short time it gets up at phone starting. At next boot, it then gets re installed. But same : phone is like unplugged after a couple of seconds even if i don't touch anything !
An d yes, i now have tried 6 computers, with the same results ...
This sort of makes me think... lack of data connection? i.e. only power drawn?

Edit: can't be, relating would not work then....

BUT: what anti virus are you using? Any fancy third party firewall? Switch both off for a test maybe?

    +1 to this

I just went through the thread, and wanted to suggest the same.
I disable my Norton anti virus and firewall every time I connect my Z10 to PC, as it stopped me from being able to install BBM from Beta Zone over the USB connection.

Yes : data connection seems ok as i could reload the OS with BB link.

I have NOD32 running, but it does not say anything. And i have no firewall.
I just tried deactivating it, all remains the same ...

Are you sure Nod32 does not have some fancy network monitoring or firewall built in?

I suggest you try with Nod32 switched off to make sure it's not at fault.

(Someone at uni had issues with the VPN - just because of Avast... so sometimes these products mess up.)

Send them an angry email that they should tidy up their software (BlackBerry 10 and support has been out for 7.5 months now) and add the right ports/services as an exception.

Yes this is what I did : every real time scanning.

As I think more and more this is a blackberry software issue, I'm thinking about pushing a leaked 10.2 to it.
What about switching back to 10.1 ? Is it easily doable ?

Countless other people have no issue with 10.2, me included, also, the symptoms are very contradictory. I'm really not sure what is left...
If you switched off the anti virus it should work - that bus the only component that is a prime candidate for interference.

If you had a connection problem only, it could be an issue on the data connection part of the USB, but then you can reload the OS which speaks against it. I'm As you tried several PCs, one can ruule out the PC side too....

So I'm really not sure what is left. You could try going down to 10.1 - however I fear that won't solve the issue - but maybe I'm wrong, maybe you caught some elusive bug.

Yes, this bug really seems crazy !
I'll flash some 10.2 on it this week end when i'll get some time ...

But in the meantime, if anybody has any suggestion, i'm open to try it !

I have read what you have done so far, and dont think you have done this.

Its important you do it in this order.

    PC TURNED ON.

    z10 TURNED OFF.

NO BB LINK RUNNING ON PC.

PLUG THE TURNED OFF Z10 INTO PC.

    TURN ON THE Z10.

    WAIT SEVERAL MINUTES .

    GOOD LUCK.

I know this sounds simple, but I don't think it's been mentioned. I had the same problem once, I just rebooted the PC and haven't had a problem since.

I tried this some time ago, and i've just did it again : this leads to the same.
At booting, i hear the sound "usb plugged", and windows sees a "blackberry device".
But this only lasts a few seconds, lets say 5 secs.
Then i hear "usb disconnected" sound, and the device manager agrees : no more blackberry is seen as connected.

I know this sounds simple, but I don't think it's been mentioned. I had the same problem once, I just rebooted the PC and haven't had a problem since.
    i tried this ! ...
rebooted a few times ! before installing BB Link, afterwards, and also rebooting my device between each step too...
    this doesn't change a thing.

Phone hardware fault. That's my theory. Probably with the usb.

I get the exact same issue on all PCs, all OSs. Charges, I can even flash versions. It won't stay connected for more than 5-10secs. USB on/off makes no difference.

Typed on and then corrected by my Z10

I've just got the official 10.2, but all remains the same.

Hardware seems to work as windows sees the phone during its startup, but when the OS is loaded, there's no way to get it connected ...

Does anyone would have another idea ?

I am having the exactly same problem

    windows 8.1
    usb 2.0/3.0
plug in my z10 and no usb connect sound from windows.
if I reboot the phone I will hear the connect sound and then 5 seconds later the disconnect sound.

this phone/cable works fine on my win 7 machine. very frustrating...

did you end up resolving the issue?

No, I didn't resolve this issue...
I gave up and use wi-fi sharing when I need to transfer files. A bit sad though.
I you find a solution, please tell me !

Thanks for the update. It definitely has something to do with the driver compatibility. At least that's my theory. I think I will talk to BlackBerry Support and see if I can get anywhere with that.

Thanks for the suggestion Daniel. I think this is an issue that happens before link even runs. When I plug in the phone via cable to the laptop there isn't even a usb connect sound from windows. In other words, windows hasn't even detected the usb device. Link would only be able to function after its detected.
