I have tried an extensive search, but only came up with one reference as to what is missing.
In Device Manager under Universal Serial Bus Controllers, I get an unknown device. No matter
what I plug into an USB port, I get USB device not recognized. I know there should be something
similar to RIM USB controller, 3 items should be listed.
Have done a complete uninstall of BlackBerry Link and all drivers, rebooted, then reinstalled
BlackBerry Link. I have RIM virtual ports, but I get the above message and also that
BlackBerry Smartphone is unplugged. Tried installing the BlackBerry USB drivers that has
been referenced here, that did not help at all.

    Appreciate any help, ****

    Turn off Z10 .

    Plug it onto the pc

    Turn on the Z10

    Let the drivers install.

    Hope that helps

Thanks, but unfortunately that doesn't work either.
Wondering if I should reset phone to factory specs, but not reload apps
from backup and start from fresh.

    Turn off Z10 .

    Plug it onto the pc

    Turn on the Z10

    Let the drivers install.

Kept original post short, should have mentioned that it acts up in any port.
Tried that and most suggestions. In process of getting phone back up and running,
did a security wipe and added everything back manually, Not using BlackBerry Link
to restore. All that work did not solve problem. Bummer.

Change ports. My USB 3.0 port never connects tot the Z10...

Do you have another computer to test against? The next step would to to eliminate either the phone or the computer as the cause.

It may be a driver issue (I met those numerous times especially, but not only with USB 3.0)

    You could try this:
    Disconnect your device
    Open an administrative Powershell
    Enter: set devmgr_show_nonpresent_devices=1
Open device manager through the same shell with devmgmt.msc
    Klick on view
    Klick on show hidden devices

Now there are probably a few devices displayed that are not installed correctly, or twice, which can also be an issue. Feel free to remove them

As per some suggestions, well aware it is a driver issue, changing ports doesn't help since error message
pops up even when I plug in thumb drives. As mentioned in original post, I installed BlackBerry USB
drivers, that didn't work either. Going to Device Manager to update driver, no BlackBerry nor RIM drivers
show up. Even tried pointed to .inf files I found yet Windows says not for this device.
Merry Christmas to all who celebrate and a hearty thank you for all the help.

Did you try a different USB cord?
How are you installing BlackBerry Link? If you uninstall it and then plug in your BlackBerry, it should install and it would make sense that it'd detect your phone.

    Happy Christmas! Good luck.

Yes, have tried different cables, but problem isn't just with Z10.
Uninstalled, rebooted, then reinstalled BlackBerry Link, actually tried
all suggestions that I found in the forums.
Basically just ignore it now, after error message, all works so about given up.
    Thanks!

I just bought a Z10 and I can't use it in mass storage, I've gone to storage and access and switched mass storage on and it's still not working. Any help would be appreciated.
