Can someone tell me how you update a side loaded app? Can you do it on the device itself, or do you need to update and reinstall manually each time?

I don't know - but then, a lot of things are perplexing me with BlackBerry these days.

Removing side loading will make sure the OS runs smooth and nobody can load pirated apps anymore.

If BlackBerry wants developers they best close off this issue now and fast.

I am all for it, even though I have a few sideloaded apps all are free apps, just not available from BlackBerry world yet.

I understand why they would block side loaded apps, but I rely on a couple of apps that are free downloads on android and not available yet in BBworld... Can't say I would be happy about them blocking it

When you guys updated to the new OS, did you have side loaded apps already installed? If so, did they work and was data kept after the upgrade?

I agree. I don't like it, but I agree with the policy. If BBRY wants to play nice with developers, they need to ensure crackheads can't bootleg their apps. I'm guilty of it myself. I used a password, stopwatch and mileage app on my GS3 and really wanted them on my Z10. I backed'em up, converted them & sideloaded them. They work great on my Z10.
With this said, I would absolutely pay for the same apps, if they came to BB10.
I seriously don't know why BBRY or Devs aren't quicker to the party with the major app selection.
Pay the maker of the FB app a wad of cash to put the same functionality in the Z10 FB app.....& so on..

EDIT: I contacted the Devs of the apps I wantedBB to see if they had plans of developing the apps for Z10. One dev said no... the other said before the end of the year, and the other has the same app I used on my GS3 in BB World, but the function I needed, the BB App didn't have. So I sideloaded the droid app.... works perfectly.

My sideloaded apps all work the same after the AT&T update. I was pissed at myself for not backing up before the upgrade, thinking I'd lose data. It was all intact in the sideloaded apps.

Not true. Even 10.2 allows sideloading, and if you're talking because the carrier adds it, then just install leaks.
