How much data could I possibly loose if I update to the latest software 10.2.1 via BlackBerry link?

You will not loose any data updating thru link. But after the update if you have a lot of email sinking you will loose some data there. Try to stay as much as possible connected to wifi in the next 24 hours.

Yes I'm talking about Data costs, and I don't have wifi, so will I loose my data bundles if I update via link?

Well, the update is going to be anything from 1MB to 1000MB which is just about 1GB depending on the version and carrier you have.

If you just click the update it might tell how much data needs to be downloaded.

    Good luck

If you're using link to update over you're own WiFi network unless your ISP charges you for using too much data like a cell carrier it will use no data against your cell plan. Like someone else said of course syncing etc. off of WiFi will use data on your cell plan.

I'm in south Africa, public "open" wifi is a mystery to find.

My update says it's a 359 MB file, could it take more data than 359MB if I updated via link?

    I'm not understanding, sorry.

You want to tether your phone to give your computer internet access to update over link? No different than doing it OTA. You want to use your computers internet access to download and install using link? In this case no it doesn't use your cell data.

Shouldn't take more than that I don't think. It doesn't wipe your device so you will still have your phone information. Unless there are app updates that will appear when you update (some only support 10.2.1) that's the only possible addition.

I'd recommend using link just because it saves your cell data which in Canada costs waaay more than my home Internet. Also reduces the risk of losing connection and having to start over.

Actually, I suspect Link will use MORE data than just updating it from the device. I suspect Link will download the complete OS image, whereas the device will do a Delta update (only the changed bits), though I can't confirm (I don't use Link).

I would not advice you to use your mobile data to operate link for the updates. Many people have encountered errors while downloading the update which requires for them to restart all over again.
    You wouldn't want that.
Try and get a wifi to connect with or look for a USB modem for Internet.

My experience updating to 10.2.1 using Link: I got error when updating on Link (wifi). First error at 5%, second at 7%, third at 8%, then at 10%. Then I just gave up updating on Link and just updated through the phone's software update setting (on wifi). First it was around 270MB and after that was complete, it continued with another 990MB download. My previous OS was 10.2.0.1767.

My brother has the USB moderm, i could try that, how much data for the USB would I need to purchase to load the whole 359 MB OS update?

    I've tried link, and I lost 200mb + and not even 2% uploaded mxm,so I quit it.

Depends on the plans your carriers offer.
You can subscribe for a minimum of 2gb
