The story is getting juicy as I dig. Finally I got a Telus guy to get me more details on the phone. Apparently, this is a "pre-release" phone and should have never been sold. According to the techs at Telus, this phone isn't even compatible with their network. The guy that sold me the phone is potentially in a big pile of doggie doo.

I'm confused. Did you actually by this phone from Telus, or just a guy who happened to work at Telus? If you just bought a phone from a guy, where he works is irrelevant. If he worked at Tim Horton's, you wouldn't be entitled to a free coffee. It's sounding like some clown who had a Dev Alpha phone sold it to make a few bucks.

It doesn't matter if the phone was his to sell. It matters very much if he sold a pre-release phone that is Telus' property and potentially knowing it will not work anymore. It's not a Dev phone from the looks of it. It's just a normal Z10.

I bought the phone from a Telus Account Manager. He even gave me his card!

Get him to have it unlocked or refund the money. I'd even bet he wasn't authorized to sell you the carrier's pre-release phone and could be in a lot of trouble if Telus found out.

if it's mep locked, you're sol but network lock any online place can do it.

I got mine done for 30 tax in (Bell/Virgin) z10 on line retailer, got unlock code in less then 24hrs.

I told BB that it's MEP locked. Should that not raise a flag immediately? Right there they could have saved me the hassle and run around.

So just out of curiosity, why didn't you just buy an unlocked device or at the very least a locked one but from your carrier? Was it cheaper with Telus?

Update: a guardian angle came my way and touch me with an unlock code through private message. I'm all set now.

I have no clue how and cannot disclose who, but I'm up and running with my Z10 now on Wind.
