I traded in my 9900 to get my bb10 so don't have both phones together at the same time, therefore the blue tooth option is out I suppose.

I do have my 9900 contacts backed up on desktop manager though. Is there a way I can still transfer my contacts using the new blackberry link software?

    Thanks everyone

well i got my z10 today and i tried asking this in the bb10 os forum but that place isn't as active as this one so i'll ask in here instead of creating a new thread....i seemingly transferred everything from my bold 9700 to the z10 except for a few of my bbm contacts. only 1 made it (actually 2 but it's a dead pin that i never deleted)...how can i get all my bbm contacts back on the z10, along with chat history if possible...i know everything is supposed to be stored and restored with blackberryID but it no longer gives me the option to restore on the z10...any other options??

Just go through your contacts on old phone and write down their pin numbers and then manually input th on the Z10. Strange they wouldn't automatically transfer though...

Hi, how can i search for the backup file using Blackberry Link? It seems like it wanted me to plug my older phone in. I'd rather transfer from a backup file that has all my contacts.

I've tried transferring (copying) my contacts from my BB 9900 to BB Z10 several times already. While all the contacts were transferred, I noticed that is was an incomplete transfer. Not all of the contact information were transferred.

Be careful!! In my case I thought that as well but it just took time to load up. I ended up having 5 copies of each contact.

Check your file manager to see if they really haven't been transferred

It didn't work until I had the Z10 update 10.0.10.85 and the BlackBerry Link update as well.

With those updates I selected the "Legacy backup" that I had made from desktop manager, selected various things I wanted to restore and my contacts were transferred.

If you still have your 9900 then the switch device option might work as well.

Pair the two phones together with blue tooth. Then hit the set up button on the 9900. After that go into blue tooth in the set up menu on the 9900. Then you click on the z10 in the blue tooth menu on the 9900. It will give you the option for transfer contacts. Worked for me.

Oops. Just read that others had posted this. Either way, it works.

Sir, you are a frigging genius. Simple, fast, and 100% effective for me.
Thanks, if there's any contacts missing from the Z10 after the transfer, you can find them in the file manager under downloads. Simply select the required contact and a button appears in the bottom bar to add to contacts.

    Love this phone

Hi everyone. The best solution I've found is to connect the 9900 to the Z10 via bluetooth. Once paired, in the BT menu on the 9900, select the Z10 by pressing it. When the menu pops up simply select transfer contacts. Job done. Thanks everyone, I'm here all week.
Great! Will it work with Storm 2 to Z10?

It depends what OS you're running, i only did it with a 9900 on OS7. I assume you're rocking 6?

Thanks a lot, I have a Bold 9900 for personal use and a Q10 for work. Its nice to be able to have all my contacts at one place and also makes for a very good backup at the same time!
