    Hi All,

First off let me give you a little background, I have owned a galaxy s3 for approx 18 months now and am getting a little restless and fancy a change, a lot of friends have blackberry's, but generally all the older models ( bold, torch, storm etc.) anyhow I really like the look of the z10 and think it could be about time for me to get my first blackberry, my only concern's are as follows, if I buy a second hand z10, would people who was in the contact list of the previous owner still be able to message me, or is there a way to only accept messages/invites from people i would like in my contacts list?

Many thanks in advance for your time and effort in answering the above.

You mean BBM? NO they won't be able to, because Blackberry IDs are different..

The only messages you might get is BBM. Only because the pin # sticks with the device

If you get a second hand one go into the settings, security, and do a security wipe. That will remove the previous owners details off the phone. However, the pin remains the same, so should anyone with that pin message you, you can always ignore it, and block the sender

I could be wrong, but I was under the understanding that BBM was linked to the device pin and not your ID. I've had contacts sell their device and when the new owner sets up their BBM they were on my contact list. You just have to erase or block them. No big deal really.

Take it quickly. I changed from my S3 about 2 weeks ago, love the Z10. Some apps I wanted but could not port are simple ones. BMO (Banking) mainly, but the mobile web site works fine for me. Just read up on how the OS was supposed to have deleted emails older than 30 days from the actual email account. I actually recommend to have all emails forwarded to an ARCHIVE email account. I have GMail and and an archive gmail account. Keep the Archive email account OFF the BB just in case.

Just verify the serial number matches the phone and the receipt/box. I was duped into a used one with a box and no receipt. The phone was a 'lost' unit and was shut down by RIM one month into ownership. The box serial number didn't match the phone so the phone was likely stolen.

I think your combining two things into one with the email issue. The email client in BB10 doesn't give the option to "delete from device only" and BB10 doesn't give the option to keep emails on device longer than 30 days. If you delete the email from device, it deletes from the server... if you don't delete it from the device (mark it read or leave it unread) it purges from the phone but stays on the server. At least this is my understanding, coming from a world where this is standard operating procedure. I think this has just got muddied a little as these are two email complaints from many long term BB OS users.

(If there is some auto deletion from server I don't know about please tell me, but I don't think that is the case)

Coming from a HTC Desire HD which I had for 29 months, and being a satisfied Android user, I opted to go for a BB Z10. I was attracted by the unified message Hub. Also looking at the apps, PlayCloud is a killer app for me.

A bit disappointed that Gmail's archive function is not supported. Also disappointed that Doc to Go has no cloud integration. A bit of UI inconsistency. No gesture to lock or sleep. Usually options are indicated by three vertical dots, but in other apps they are at a pane revealed by a swipe down from the top. The keyboard is usually hidden by a downward swipe but not in BBM. The keyboard does a great job at work prediction but a poor on in correcting typos (as compared to Swiftkey).

Overall, I am happy with my selection. I love the hardware (not keen on really big phones) and I love the UI.

Gmail is better in the Z's browser than in the IPhone email app, no exaggeration. In fact, if you must have Google anything, try logging in through the browser. There are some tasty goodies for you!

Yes, the BlackBerry Z10 has a great browser. For some services like Google+, Google News and Local Traffic I just made shortcuts to the mobile site. Some (news and traffic) are much better than the Android app (ironically, especially for Google News). I made a link to Gmail, but I still like using the Hub.

My solution was just to archive at the end of the day from my laptop. Not a deal breaker, would be nice to have.
