can I suggest that anyone reading this install a fantastic app called DU battery saver pro it will monitor those draining android apps and close them if necessary which will greatly improve battery life.

Have you actually used that app on BlackBerry 10?

Because a number of features it claims to have are the kind of thing that I doubt would work reliably (or at all) under the BB10 Android runtime.

Yes you can use it and it is very effective on stopping unwanted android running apps which will hog resources, since the blackberry runtime only gives partial android activity there will be some minor limitations as apposed to a full blown android OS when using some ported android apps,
To be fair that is the only issue with battery performance especially since some ported apps are memory hoggers
