Some small PDF attachments (1.5m) on my email indicate a file size of 0, others load fine, all work perfectly on iPhone.

Email attachment sizes are controlled by your email service. The only place where size limit is a concern would be in BBM where it's limited to 6MB though after some testing, it does seem that videos through email are limited to around 6MB as well.

I recently received an 8.8 megabyte video over Gmail on my Z10.

I have sent any files that large myself yet, but it seems that i can receive them at least.

Hmmm... It said the attachment was 8.8 megs in the email, but the file manager reports its size as 6 mb. weird.
