Hi - it's a D for Delivered - it means the text message made it's way safely to the target device.

If you were on BBM instead of SMS you'd see an "R" for Read as well.

If this is the case, why only a few of my messages have this?
Is this because they were delayed and not sent immediately?

You will only get those if you are using BBM. If your just text messaging someone it won't come up.

It depends on what your carrier supports. Sometimes texts to someone on the same carrier can show the D for delivered. I believe you have to have delivery confirmation enabled though. I used to get it a lot with previous phones when texting someone else on Verizon

Well, this is really strange. I have my Z10 for four months and sent lots of SMS but saw this D indication only a few times.

The delivery confirmation is on. This morning two SMS had this symbol - one to Rogers, my carrier, and another one to Telus.

Using 2 friends as an example - both have iPhones - I have a Z10. We are all on the same carrier. One shows the D and the other never does. Makes me wonder if their texting app has an option to not show delivered status.

I'm on ATT. When I go into those settings, all I have is Word Substitution. If I go into MMS settings, I have all the read and delivery confirmations. Wonder why I don't have those options for SMS?

Simple as this...BBM always uses "D" and R" for delivered and received.
Text messages are either a checkmark or a D depending on the carrier.

Most phones have the option to show message confirmed.. it has to be on both phones for it to work

Untrue. My wife uses a LG Cosmos which is incapable of showing message confirmed, yet I get delivery confirmation.
