Hi. I always could swipe upwards to take my phone out of "sleep mode" and then unlock it and continue. Now the swipe gesture doesn't seem to work. I have to press the top power key to take it out of sleep mode. I did a hard restart but it is still the same. Any ideas on how to get this back?

Check in your phone's display settings, you may have turned off "swipe to wake".

Restart the phone. Happened to me before as well and all you need to do is power it off and on again. A cold reboot.
