Wouldn't it be easier and more convenient on the battery just to plug in the z10 to the tv hdmi?

Enable Media Sharing in the settings. Then choose what you want to be able to stream. Music, pictures, videos or all of the them. Should show up on your Xbox as long as you're on the same wifi network after that.

Pairing the phone with Xbox or PS3 is great - you can use the youtube app to stream videos from the phone....even queue up the vids!

Your Xbox doesn't have to have wifi, if it's connected to the Internet to the same network as the one on your phone it should show up as well. Basically your phone needs to be connected to the same hone network your Xbox is on. Idk if you have wifi on your network (though I find this highly unlikely).
Anyways, to answer your question: Yes, I think you should be able to connect to your phone through usb, just enable mass storage mode in settings and it should work
