When I tap the back of my Z10 with my finger (top, near the camera) it sounds like something is loose inside... anyone else have this? If so, what is it??

It's the auto focus mechanism. Common with most smart phones today.

Which one is broken then Phill? The non noisemaker? I'm trying to find a used Verizon device and I'll make sure to check for noises to make sure it's good. [=

Mine makes the same exact noise. Went to get it exchanged and they opened up two other brand new devices and they were worse than the one I originally had so I stayed with that. It's unfortunate, but oh well.

Yeah I have the same rattle, I have a VZW Z10. I believe the noise is actually coming from the NFC contacts. If I take the back of the phone off and shake it, it will still rattle. And this is the same rattle I hear with the cover on. If I place a finger on the little NFC contact pins, the rattle stops. When I put the back back on and put a little more pressure in the area of the NFC contacts, it also stops the rattle. The contacts are spring loaded, it would seem that the back cover is not putting quite enough pressure to hold them down to where they don't rattle. Once I figured out that's what the rattle is, I stopped worrying about it. Hopefully your issue is the same, because if it is, it seems to be a fairly minor issue.

Mine definitely isn't coming from the NFC contacts.

Oh ok... I guess its nice to know this is considered normal.... I just hate that I can sometimes hear the same noise when the phone vibrates....

Yeah mine does it too, right at the top near the camera. Noticed it when I got it initially but I think it's normal, and the camera suggesting offered by others above seems really plausible.

OK so.... I couldn't take it anymore.... the rattling when my phone was set to vibrate simply drove me nuts... As mentioned before, seems like almost all Z10s rattle when you tap the back of the phone near the camera,, but mines was extra loud.. I took it to VZW and the rep compared it to hers... and her phone did not rattle during vibrate mode... I ended up calling customer service and had them send out a new unit (on my 14th day...lol) The new phone has the "tapping noise" but it does not raise a ruckus during vibrate mode... Thanks Goodness!!!

I noticed it the first time I put the phone on the table. Annoying, but the phone is solid in almost every other regard.

Had this same issue when I had my iPhone 4 and I think it is related to metal buttons. For some reason no matter who the maker metal buttons are not tight due to friction it can cause. Either way still login this phone.
