I have a class 10 64 GB Micro SD Card and was using it in my Blackberry Z10 for about a week now. After taking about 50 photos I noticed that when I go into 'Pictures' some of them are black and not readable. I also noticed at the top right of the screen while viewing a photo it shows an icon that the photo is saved to the SD card but the icon shows a broken SD card. The Z10 reads the card fine, shows 59 GB available, I am very confused.

    Has anyone else experienced this?

Do I have a corrupt media card?

Do I have to do any special formatting to it for it to function correctly?

    Any help is much appreciated.

You should have formatted it before using it. I would try exporting the files to a computer deleting them from the card, formatting the card and then reload the pictures.

Upon inserting it into the Z10 it asked me if I wanted to format it and I did! Still had this problem though.

I have the "Blacked Out" pictures issue as well. But if I'm not mistaken, i think I had the problem even before I bought an SD card for my phone.

I had problems with 3 cheap 64gb ones on eBay, in the end I returned them and bought a SanDisk from Expansys as a known good supplier. No problems since. There are plenty of "fake" cards on eBay, fake as in who makes them and fake capacity too, if for example the card is actually say a 4gb card that's misreporting itself then when it gets full it will start overwriting what's already stored on there giving the impression stuff is getting corrupted.

So I noticed whenever I turn off/restart/battery pull the phone, the pictures saved to media card become unviewable, but ones saved to the device are viewable. Anyone else have this problem?

I did have the same problem with my AData 32GB class 10 card. To fix the problem, I took the card out of my Z10 and put it into my laptop and ran a scan fixing any bad sectors. On a windows PC it is the repair option with both options checked. This was a month ago and the issue hasn't reappeared.

I always buy my Micro SD cards with an adapter. You never know when you might need one (I don't think all of them are the same).

I have had this happened on multiple devices, usually there is problem with the memory card. Either it's a defective cell inside the card or that particular card has worn out (your card is new, I don't think this is the case). In some cases the file is still readable in computer, but not readable in the original device (not sure why but it happened to me before), but sometimes the file is corrupted and cannot be read in any devices.

Going from my experience, xD cards are the worst for this problem (thankfully no phone manufacturers are using them), and brand matters. I had seen more occurrences happened with generic and "not well known" brands than with the "well-known" brands. While the "well known" brands is not bulletproof, they usually offer lifetime on their high end line or at least long term warranty (5 years and up) to back their products.
Also, be careful if you plug in your memory in cheap card readers, they can corrupt your memory card instantly, rendering all the contents unreadable.

To be safe, always backup your important files and photos to your computer regularly regardless of what brand of memory card that you are using.

It worked in my case. I usually take the easier option to try first, and if that didn't work, I would have tried the return route.
