I really hope this port works for the PLAYBOOK but I fear it has as much chance as the current instagram for Z10 that doesn't work on PLAYBOOK. PLAYBOOK would be so much better with Skype.

Agreed. Just a 'drive-by', probably an attempt to derail the thread.

Glad to hear Skype will finally be available soon. I don't really use it myself, but this will convince many who have been holding out to make the switch, imho.

Haven't you been paying attention? Skype on BB10 is an Android port.
I'm hoping the guy in the video just got the terminology wrong. What exactly do they mean by a "port"

    1) Did they just grab the android apk file and use the automated porting system and out pooped a bar file that runs on the android runtime.

    2) Or did they grab the c++ internal code as the engine from the android app and started integrating Cascades onto that c++ engine si it won't need to use the android runtime to work.

I'm really hoping that it is number 2 which IMHO is not a port but just reusing the core c++ engine.

I guess the only way to find out is to get our hands on it and do the swipe down test

So its confirmed that it's number 2?

Just to be sure... It means it doesn't run in the android runtime?

Is that an Android port or native ?
Honestly does it really matter as long as it is optimized and works well?

I converted and sideloaded my bank's android app, it took all of 3 minutes.
There are two sites that offer instant .apk file conversion, so there is no excuse anymore...

Awesome, just watched the q10 review from Kevin's CB review. Can't wait to have my long wait Skype on my z10! Aside from the 10.1, I also want to have the q10 dark theme on my z to have the premium feel!

    Posted via CB10

I read somewhere in the forum that it it using more power to make a dark color on lcd so wouldn't it just rape our battery life

to my kmowlegde, The Skype that will be avaible for BlackBerry 10 is android port (more in line with your #1 option) but its not a straight copy of the regular Skype for Android, but a version that was worked on and specially coded for the purpose of being converted to BlackBerry 10.
The one seen in the video wasn't a user made port ( simple a.pk to .bar version). It comes preinstalled from Blackberry/Skype on review editions of BlackBerry Q10.

    hope that clears it up
