I'm sure this is covered somewhere but a quick search failed me... I'm sure I read long ago that 10.2 was going to offer a simpler keypad option on the lock screen... just upgraded last night and I don't see such an option. Was it not implemented?

It's there.... just a number pad instead of a full alphanumeric keyboard. Simpler, but not as simple as it should be. To me simpler would be either a pattern or a simple swipe to unlock.

Yes if you're using a purely numeric password, simple password layout makes it 10 times easier to enter it.
