The calendar icon shows the day of the month. My add noticed it.
There may be another thread for new things but I didn't see it. Just wanted to throw it out there.

To get the date to show on the home screen, do a partial swipe up and let go just before waking the device. You'll see the big clock and the date as a subtitle
