...extremely silly. I have never used NFC in any way, shape or form. Firstly, where is the best place to buy them? Amazon? And then, what are tge best tags to use with a Z10?

Are they easy to set up with the phone? And are they easy to use in general?

    Thanks

I just bought 25 NATG203 From overair.ca. In Hamilton Ontario for $25 all in. Took 2 days for delivery. Anyways I'm just posting here so I can follow this thread. Now I have to figure out how to use them and what apps I need.

Does the native app on 10.2 work well with switching wifi on and off? Because ive seen apps in BBW that there is some kind of bug with the wifi API?

There are the ones I got but they seem to be unavailable. I don't know if the others from Mifare are good or not. They have different capacities. I don't know about wifi on/off

Amazon.com: Mifare Ultralight NFC Tags (10 tags): Everything Else

I just wrote WebEvolved and asked for something equivalent. We shall see....

Got an actual link. There are so many types and storage capacities, it can be confusing finding the correct models/designs.

    Ditto NTAG203.

BTW, you do need to consider if your tags will go on metal. No big deal, but you need to make sure the tag has the capability.

I used these, had ordered one set, they worked I bought more.

Average price $2-3 because I see now some sellers are starting a bid at $20 for a set of 5. I chose these first for the cost and to just try the technology out. They are rewritable and lockable.

I have had good luck with this shop. UK based, but Royal Post is pretty cheap.

One thing to consider is the tag just for yourself or other people as well. That is why I suggest NTAG203 since the greatest number of phones can read them.

Most people are just storing a little bit of data or an URL. The app that comes with bb10 doesn't do all that much.

Ok, I take back the comment that the free app doesn't do much. I'm still on 10.1.

So you program your phone to react to the tag? Does that mean that my phone can do something different than my wife's when tapping the same tag?
But then how do NFC Enabled business cards or advertising work?

No you program the tag to react to the phone. Business cards would populate whatever you write to them ie name number email address etc.

Oh OK. So before I begin, can the tags be reprogrammed? Or is it a one shot deal? Good thing I got 25 then eh?

The new smart tags app in 10.2 and 10.2.1 is MUCH better and useful. You can do smart triggers, meaning you can set multiple things to trigger at the same time when you tap an NFC tag. The only drawback is that your phone must be turned on an unlocked for NFC tags to read. You can't just tap a tag with the screen turned off and phone locked unfortunately. Hopefully they will add this in the future.

They can generally be re-written but you can also specify LOCK and then that would be ONE WRITE only.

You can lock and unlock as long as you use the same device to do it.

Not new to BlackBerry but new to NFC. Just bought a vehicle that has Bluetooth so I'm going to explore creating some tags.

Can anyone tell me if on 10.2 smart tag app, If I'm adding a "smart trigger", and I add wifi, and leave it set to toggle, does it just turn wifi off if on when I tap the tag and vice versa if on, turn it off?

Brandon, I haven't gotten any tags yet but the nfc setting on my 10.2.1.1055 shows you can set it up to work while locked. I can't confirm this yet though

Yea, I noticed that as well. Unfortunately it still doesn't work. For tags you need to have the phone unlocked. I think the back-lit options are for payments or smart card uses.

How big does the storage have to be on the tags for it to say.launch an app or toggle something? The biggest I can find is 1k I think. Is that enough?
