Yup. If you are going to do a security wipe after an update you may as well do a destructive update. If you want the surety that your data is non-recoverable you can do the wipe after the autoloader and get the same result. It will finish in a very short time.

That's because you did it the way that made the security wipe the most complex it could be.

The update replaced most if not all the OS without removing your personal data. Then you removed all your personal data. If you had used an autoloader in the first place it would have done the same thing in a few minutes.

A security wipe takes longer the more jumbled up the file system becomes, which hapens with use over time, and nondestructive upgrades. If the idea is to upgrade the OS and start fresh with no user data, the fastest, most effective way is with an autoloader.

It depends why it is taking so long. If memory has been corrupted it could get stuck. If it does sometimes a reboot will get it unstuck.

That is a memory corruption error. An autoloader is probably your best bet now.

You may have to shut down everything the phone, start the autoloader, connect the phone by USB, then start it. You may have to repeat several times before the autoloader catches the boot loader at the right time. My Z10STL100-3 had this problem once, it can be fixed.

Sorry, but I haven't been using my Z10 since September, and it was probably over a year since I used an autoloader on any BB10 device. I'm sure if you go to the leaks area and ask someone there will give you the best option. You have to provide the specific model of Z10 you have.

I have a passport that inexplicably decided to do a security swipe (no i didn't enter my password incorrectly 10 times)... i just pulled the phone out of my jacket last night and it was swiping. It's been over 24 hours now and it's stuck on 98%. Frustrating.......

I've never used an autoloader just straight OS updates from Blackberry so I don't understand why this is happening.

Difficult to diagnose with out full details, but there is no magic link between using autoloaders and a security wipe. Using an autoloader does not make your device more likely to spontaneously wipe.
