SD Card Bloated
I had an 8gb card in my z10, it got full so I got a 32gb card and formatted it on the z10. Put it in the laptop and dragged and dropped some files on the sd card. When I put the 32gb card back in the z10, it took a while but it recognised everything on the card, however it's now totally full, and I haven't added anything other than a couple of 1gb movies from the internal memory.
The total file size should be no more than 12gb, but it's showing as near 30gb in the z10 file manager.
Any ideas where the 18gb 'other' file bloat came from. Not had time to look at the card on the laptop yet, just interested if there are any known Sd card issues. Ta.

I'd look it over again - either directly on the pc or using usb or wifi-sharing to look at its contents.

Hey
I'm having the same problem though I didn't update my SD card. If I check it on my PC I see a few KB free but if I select all the files and folders on the SD card (16GB) only 1.3GB is used. Any ideas?

Could be the file system used. FAT32 isn't the most efficient way to store Sara in a file system because the directory structure takes up a lot of room and has a limited amount of space.
FYI, you can fit more data in the same space if the files are large on average.

I've experienced this twice with my 64GB card when it was full but there were only 18GB of files and data. My solution was to copy everything to my laptop, format the card in my Z10, and then copy the files back.
My suspicions as to the culprit lie with either the camera app or the 3rd party Podcasts app (most likely as I use this app almost daily) .

Danp - thanks for the response. I very much doubt it is the file system as there are only 31 files on the SD card. A 1.3GB movie (downloaded from BBWorld) and a few files for other moves and such. I've checked for hidden files etc and s'far as I can see, there is nothing. Still no idea why :-)
MPG - I use Nobex for podcasts. I've got a few hours of podcasts waiting to listen to but nothing that would take up even a GB of space! That said, if something is not deleting the files properly, it could very well be the cause. I'll watch and delete the movie and then format my card as it literally has nothing else on it that I'd need to save. Will see how it goes and post after.

maybe there are duplicated files

I looked at the sd card on the pc, and in the cards properties it showed as 30gb, however the only files in there totalled 12gb?!?
I took the stuff off the card, deleted it all and checked the properties and it was still showing as full, so I formatted it on the pc, and then the z10, and then copied the files back (v. slow on a USB connection) .
It's now showing the proper free space on the phone etc. so far. Guess big cards need a good thorough formatting if they've had stuff on from another device.

Glad you got it figured out.
Now, back to the game.

Some apps cache pictures on the card as "Other data" it's a real pain.
