Just to confirm I re-enabled LBS and rebooted and the issue came back in less than 5mins. Disabled LBS rebooted and all good again.
I'm glad this works for you, but the same does not work for me. I shut off lbs and rebooted and it came back just like before.

10.2.1.1055 no problems except when I'm in a dark room the screen seems to sometimes push up the brightness for no reason. Not terribly annoying but would be nice if it was fixed eventually.

Edit: I've only seen this after around an hour of screen on time and I suspect it may be the sensor reading reflecting light that comes from the screen so it may not actually be malfunctioning.

If I'm not mistaken, the accelerometer, gyro and orientation sensor all depend on course location information to compensate for the earths magnetism, which varies from place to place. If there is some quirk in the system that supplies that info (cell towers, GPS, wifi, BB servers) it could cause those sensors to fail. Also, astronomic winter started this weekend, so there may be some date/time calculation bug in there.

This would not explain proximity or light sensor issues though.

The sensors probably all share an I2C or SPI hardware bus. If there is something else on that bus causing overloads or noise, it could affect all of the sensors...

No solutions, but perhaps it sparks an idea somewhere.

Heh. I suspect the reboot is making these various fixes (ie: remove this app, change the date here, disable this, do that yadda yadda yadda...) look like they work as everything is fine for a while, but the issue does seem to come back in most if not all cases. Has anyone seen the issue go away for a 24 hour period/entirely? Not sure if it's even been that long since these started... so strange... the consensus does seem to be around the LB services though.

I also disabled "Location Services" in Settings and then rebooted by holding down the volume keys. All of the previously non-working sensors (Rotation, proximity, brightness, and orientation) have all been working as normal for 3 hours so far.

I found if I have location based services enabled go into blackberry maps then exit the sensor issue instantly occurs even 15s after a clean boot.

With location based services disabled this issue has not recurred as others have reported. The linkage seems to truly be to a bug with the OS and LBS.

I did a factory reset and my phone was fine. Installed Skype again and it immediately started having the same problem again. I uninstalled and permanently removed Skype and did a battery pull and so far it's working like normal again.

None of this explains why it all started happening around the same time though.

After deleting Despicable Me ran BBVE and everything's now hunky dory. For me it appears to have been an app conflict.

It is a bit spooky since it doesn't seem to be related to any app, update, OS, etc. The only common things I can think of are the date, and/or some connection to BB's servers I wasn't aware of.

That would be due to the interlock between the Compass app and Location Based Services. It's starting to make a bit more sense.

I had a couple of times today when the screen went on and off - which I suspect was a similar issue as you have here.

My initial suspicion would be that it is something time related in the OS somewhere - a counter that reached a critical value and once it passes it, it fixes itself.

So far my phone has been fine in the evening now - the "issue" occurred during the afternoon only.
Given that this is so widespread I am very much certain it is a software bug only - I'd be surprised if it is hardware as hardware issues aren't day dependent. A reboot tend to fix software issues - and a reboot works for most people.

I cannot imagine an app being the cause unless it is a system app - because there is not sufficient overlap otherwise to explain the diverse user group that suddenly experiences effects.

Simon somewhere mentioned a solar storm: while plausible, why only a BlackBerry when other kit works fine? It can't be that fragile it would make no sense.
