Private notifications in New York Times program--how do I get rid of them?

I have the NYT app installed and it works well. It gives notifications for breaking news in the Hub. I am getting what appear to be private messages from people (unknown to me) in the NYT Notifications. I imagine this has something to do with integration with BBM, although I don't use BBM nor do I have any BBM contacts. Strange.

I can't seem to find anything in any settings that can be changed, other than to try to turn off sound and LED in the NYT notifications.

Guess next step is to uninstall the NYT app and reinstall and see what options it gives me on reinstall.

Yeah I noticed that this afternoon. First couple said " this is my news alert to test automation" then received one that said "this ones for you melina"
Not sure what they are, see if I get anymore this week, because yeah it could get annoying.
