On my 9700 bold I was able to set a power off time of midnight and power on time of 7 am, to extend battery life.

How do I do it on the z10?

Not possible. If you goto the clock and swipe down. Use bedside mode. If set properly it blocks all notifications and dims the display to save the battery.

Edit. I do miss the function though. I lived by it to avoid getting disturbed. Perhaps a timer for bedside mode could be down the road?... wishful thinking I guess.

Sadly, you can't - this something I do miss too.

I really don't get why they would eliminate such a basic power saving feature.

    Makes no sense.

I now have to remember to power down each night, or else i'll have a drained battery by morning. And need to remember to power on the morning. Its a pain.

Hope they bring it back in 10.2 or soon after.

    This cracked me up. Sorry.

Back on topic, a simple search could have answered your question.

Legacy devices didn't actually shut down, it was hibernation of some sort.

And BlackBerry 10 devices do power off like any other device out there.
