I'm looking after my parents' dog while they're away. I just took some pictures. The time I took the pictures was 8:42PM. For some reason when i go into the file manager the time stamp says 4:42PM. All of the times are off by 4 hours.

I can't figure out why. The time on the phone is correct, and so is the time within the file name.

    Here a screen shot:

    Any ideas?

20:42 is 8:42PM. Timestamp is on 24hr format. Nothing is wrong with your phone

I have read other threads about this time stamp WRONGNESS!! But yesterday I was putting together a slide show of my recent vacation. Well, actually, editing them into a program to create a motion picture slide show. So I merged my camera pictures with my Z10 pictures having sorted on, well, time stamp. Yup, the Z10 pictures sorted to 4 or 5 hour out of place. I also had a bit of a tweak since I also merged in my friend's pictures but those were only off by their camera's timestamp difference and not the large difference in the Z10's stamp.

BUT, here's the interesting thing - the internal time stamp, the exif data shows the correct time - it is the file's properties (in the folder or directory) that is stamped wrong.

I'm not sure if the exif editor I have would be able to realign the EXTERNAL timestamp with the internal data. I can probably only edit the exif which is not what I'd want.

Here's one from the trip. Actually, time is off by 7 hours! But another was off by a different amount. Notice Irfanview shows the file's time stamp and then the exif data time.

Yes, in this one time is off by ONE hour????

Just was randomly checking out others. In some cases the info is identical and as shown above, some are definitely off.

The image uploaded by that OP is correct. There's nothing wrong with it. 2042 is 8:42PM. There's no problem with the timestamp

No. The OP picture shows the first photo with a time stamp of June 8, 2014 04.42pm. If it was 24 hour format it most certainly would not contain the suffix PM. Instead it would say June 8, 2014 16:42. You're confusing the filename with the timestamp. While the filename actually includes the time in its name (and is actually correct at 2042 and 27 seconds), that's not the time stamp.

There is something wrong with the time stamp on certain photos, and from what I can see on my Z30, if the geo tag is set to on, AND a GPS coordinate is received when the photo is taken, then the photo seems to tag the correct local time. However, if a photo is taken with geo tag set to on, but the phone doesn't get a GPS coordinate by the time the photo is taken (inside, or taken very quickly after pulling phone out of a pocket, for instance), then the time stamp is off by three hours - for me on PDT. Which seems to show the phone reverting to EDT by default.

I thinks that you're mistaken... 2042 is the number of the picture, file name... look at the time stamp under the file name, it says june 8th, and which hour, aha, you see!

Dude, you keep repeating this, re-read what he says, now look at the image a little harder... (hint, look at the time stated BELOW the picture and compare it to the 24-hr time in the file name...)

ONE hour of difference? It could be summer time... I still did not check out the 4-5h difference... it could be Greenwitch Mean Time (GMT) the +/-1h summer time?? That's why the 4-5h of difference if you're living in the US-Eastcost??

Have you set up your time zone correctly??
It could be erroneous, but having set up to automatically adjust date and time, the device watch is then adapted... but not the internal watch linked to the cam?
When GPS is on, you on "false time zone', the cam saves another "compensated" timestamp.

I have no problem, this is my set up:

    Picture Time Stamp-img_20140609_064605.png

Notice that I adjusted my time zone manually, and told the device to adjust automatically...
The just now taken screenshot shows at the right date and time (with summer time) in my file manager (dark theme on my Q):

    Picture Time Stamp-img_20140609_065031.png

I can't imagine another possibility of this "error" unless it is the GPS point in the camera setting... I turned it off... Why? I don't know... never turned it on... here's the settings I talk about (in the cam-App-options:

Old news. See thread below. Occurred right after the OS update last October. Reported to BlackBerry and Michael Clewley. So they are aware. Hopefully a fix in 10.3...

    Solved:
    TURN THE GPS ON!!!
Definitely! I took two photos: one with GPS off, it is saved in GMT no summer time!!
Then, GPS ON, it is stamped local time the correct way...
I never noticed it... my screenshots are saved to my phone, my camera pics on SD card. These on SD card had a false time.
After I turned GPS on in Camera settings, it saved the pic right!!

The gps is always ON on my Z10.

If you look above at the images I posted, the left image with the exif data shows at the bottom, that irfanview offers methods of opening the gps data in googlemaps, earth and some other options. That does not appear if there is no gps data. So, my gps was ON for both of those images with the bad timestamp.

That's why I also turn it off... But by having GPS on, the time is saved correctly! It is a matter of taste... I also prefer some (n)h difference (I have 2) to a GPS reveal!

Look at the time under the file name. It says 4 : 4PM. The file name says 20:42, which is 8 : 42PM. The file name is correct. The time underneath is not!

I agree that there are circumstances where I don't want my location available. But irfanview offers a way to resave the image and strip that data. So, when I post to open forums, I generally resave with the data stripped. Also, my camera allows MY NAME to be stored in the exif data and this also gets strips when I post my camera photos.
