(I did edit this to fix my initial mis-statements on which edge was up when taking the photos)

On my Z10, I "shared to" my Playbook. When viewed on the PB, one of the images is right-side-up. The others up-side-down.

All taken by the Z10 in landscape mode. But I held the Z10 two different ways. Two were taken with the PORTS UP or along the TOP edge and the third with the Volume Buttons up (top edge).

Issue: On the Z10, the images are shown correctly, that is the orientation is not up-side-down. Whereas if they are "share with" my Playbook or actually, even uploaded here directly, they will be upsidedown.

Is this a bug in the way the EXIF data is written or a true indication of orientation?

Clarify your statement. As described, the phone was oriented the same way for all 3 shots, though clearly it was not.

You are right. I confused the issue. All were taken in Landscape Mode. The scenic fog shot was taken the way I normally hold the phone/camera. Ports UP. I took the two keyboard shots, one with the way I "normally" hold the phone/camera and the other reversing things. But MY WAY appears to create the up-side-down orientation in some cases. While the Z10 shows them all "correctly" other viewers, apps or programs show them up-side-down. In Win Explorer the thumbnails for those are upside down. But when I open them in Irfanview (Win program), they are all correctly shown/viewed no matter what the thumbnails show. Win Preview and Paint open them up-side-down. Similarly, the Z10 appears to not care which way you take a Portrait image, they are presented correctly on the z10 when veiwed. But in other apps/programs, they are "wrong". I've emailed them from the field (using SHARE) and the images are up-side-down for recipients.

If they are uploaded directly to CB (as I did here), they are upsidedown (and others have the same issue or their portrait offerings will be up-side-down). In order to upload them, I generally open in irfanview and then do a quick SaveAs, which resaves them elsewhere with the "proper" orientation.

Maybe I should read the manual on how to take pictures! I may be holding the phone the wrong way.

Seems to me his issue was described very clearly. I have the same issue from time to time. Pictures synced or downloaded to the computer turning sideways or upside down. Haven't noticed which direction the Z10 was when I took the picture.

No, he was right - I had initially described the PORT and Volume button sides wrongly and fixed the post.

Your way, "ports up", is essentially holding the camera upside-down when held in landscape mode. If you hold it that way, you will note the camera lens is a bottom. Not ideal, and not the usual orientation of a camera.

I didn't know that. Thanks. I do remember holding it both ways at different times but I didn't know that there was a difference. I'll be more observant from now on and see what happens.

While that is true - somehow the z10 shows the picture correctly no matter which Landscape orientation is used when viewing from the Picture app. But when "unleashed" on the world, suddenly the orientation is wrong or inverted. Maybe BB should tag the EXIF data the same no matter which way it was taken???
